Is anyone in this thread asking about prisons?!
No........
I haven't said EVERY child taken into care isn't at risk, but there are serious failings within most Social Services departments.
I refuse to engage in a debate or argument therefore I'm standing back from this thread, I have given the OP my advice and he/she is welcome to PM me should she wish me to provide her with any more details/advice and people her friend can contact for advice and support regards her current circumstances.
kids are taken into care for a reason. Kids are NOT taken into care for no REASON. There are laws and there are checks. Yes SS can mess up and not take kids in care, SS can be sloppy and not do enough due to miss management. But there are reasons for kid to be taken into care and more than just one person is responsible for that decision.
The reason i mention prison is many criminals say they are innocent, Many people with your view refuse too see why kids are taken into care. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY0 -

Dear oh dear, Social Services up to there old tricks again, breaking families up!
And for anyone thinking or about to say, you know nothing, they don't take children away for no reason, I have been just where the OP's friend has been, a number of times and had years of dealings with the scum.
I would just like to say that there are plenty of people out there with this opinion / experience of the SS.:(
I have 2 good friends in child protection who are very switched on and would never break up families unecessarily.:)
I think it is a case of a SS that varies over the country. I do know that the SS employees are under a huge work load that doesn't allow much time actually with families...........0 -
When Baby P was killed Social Sevices were slated for not doing their job properly because they did not take him away. Now they are getting slated for taking children away.
Can't win, can they?
To the OP, it might be best to consult someone like CAB so that you know what you will be entitled to and also to look for a part-time job.You should still get at least some of the rent paid if you do not have enough income.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
in my experience (working for the NHS) removing children from the home is often a last resort, often ss try to work with families.Rude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink! There's no getting around this concept. If you allow yourself to go someone's level you will only bring yourself down.0

Damn those social workers for trying to protect children in danger, what a bunch of utter ba**tardsWhen are they going to stop interfering and allow children to be beaten and abused.
I am pretty sure they don't wander up and down the street looking for children to take into care, I also suspect the take the step of moving the children into care as a last resort.
That said I think your statement that 'you are now refusing to enter into debate' having called hard working social workers 'scum' speaks volumes. The system is not perfect and there are failings, but to label people scum because they are trying to contribute to society beggars belief.
What exactly have you done to improve the world lately (contributing to the viewing figures for Big Brother, Eastenders and Coronation Street doesn't count) :rotfl:0 -
OY! There's nowt wrong with watching Corrie!Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.0

could she get discretionary houseing payments to keep up the rent?
I was in care as a child and it was for a very good reason, the social worker was the only person who understood what I was going though and lucky it was only for a short period while things were put into place to make sure we were looked after properly at home.
SS dont take kids into care without good reason, the OPs friend needs to work with the social workers towards getting the family back togther and then accept help to keep them all together.0 -

Your friend could advise SS that she will now have financial issues because children are in care. They have a responsibility to support the children, which can also mean making sure there is food, heat etc in house for when they visit.
Also, since it is the judge who decides if SS are given 'custody' of the children, SS need to have very strong concerns to want to remove them and need to be able to evidence that.
As the OP, who was in care, stated the best advice to your friend is to work with them to get the family reunited ASAP. The law states that children should be with their families if possible and SS have to show thats what they are working towards initially.LBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!
