I know National Auto centres are doing two tyres from £39 at the moment and buy 4 tyres and get them half price, may be worth a lot.

I was going to use them when my MOT was due but didn't need any new tyres ;)

I would recommend Michelin, especially if you have a family member that is a member of Costco, they last well, grip well and are quiet.

If you are more interested in performance than longevity I have put Toyo Proxes on my personal cars for years, they last fairly well, but grip very well, especially in the wet, they are also fairly cheap to buy for the level of grip.

At work, London Ambulance Service, we have gone over to Michelin after at least 15 years using Goodyear tyres, the Michelin tyres, at least when fitted to our Zafira Rapid Response Cars are better in every way. Though we do fit the more expensive Pilot Primacy tyres.

Just as an aside I used Pilot Primacys tyres during the "big snow" and they where excellent, much better than the Goodyears, I wouldn't consider the Primacys as a summer only tyre, neither do our fleet bods, otherwise we would have to have them taken off in colder or wetter parts of the year.

The decision on what tyre comes down to price for me, if I had the dosh I would have Pilot Primacy tyres on my own car, but Toyo T1Rs are half the price, but then I only do 15,000 miles a year in my own car, one point I had Pirelli P6000's on my Mondeo when I bought it two years ago, they had very poor grip in the wet, especially lateral grip, braking hard would often result in the ABS kicking in, no such problems with the Toyo's.

Another consideration is the environment that you use the car, if you spend a lot of time on motorways and dual carrageways then you are unlikely to have your tyres damaged by poor road surfaces and debris. If you drive round say East London over the dodgy roads there you may not even get full life from your tyres due to picking up damage.

My wife has Continental Contact2 tyres fitted to her Clio diesel, on a 56 plate, she is more than happy, but then she has a very different driving style to me.
