New tyres question
Comments
-
Go to a local motor factors- around £30 per tyre more than likely.
I'd love better tyres on mine, such as Toyo's, but the ones that came with the alloys are really hard-wearing (and crap, if there's even a hint of moisture in the air), and I acn't justify buying new ones.
I'd avoid Kwik-Fit though. Had a few memorable encounters with them when I was younger and more foolish.0 -

Haven't used this place before, but prices seem alright.0 -
I will defo avoid Kwik fit as I don't want to buy new shock absorbers or brakes.0

Are you in the market for a full set, or just the fronts?
The reason I ask, is because diesel engines are heavier than petrol, and articles seem to suggest that diesel cars go through tyres quicker at the front, although mine doesn't seem to. (406 HDi.)
If your doing about 14k per year, then I would be tempted to look at Michelins or one of the other top brands rather than a cheaper variant, (Taking into consideration the slightly heavier front end.) or you could end up buying 2 sets of cheapos over the duration.
Just put 2 Michelins on the front of the wife's Xsara HDi.That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
It will be a full set of four as the tyres are mismatched at the moment. All four will need doing within 2000 miles but one of the fronts is definitely needing done now.
Once they are matched it will be easier replacing in pairs in the future.
Michelin Energy Savers are on my shortlist.0 -
Tyre prices do vary widely.
Once you've got your shortlist, then start ringing around, and do consider the online suppliers like Blackcircles etc. Don't forget also that you want a fully fitted price to include balancing, as that's sometimes extra, and it's usually around £5 per wheel.
Local tyre houses are also a good bet, but sometimes you'll get the like of National Tyres who may be doing deals on a full set. I've dealt with NT in the past, and my local one was great.
What size are your tyres, and what prices have you had so far? That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I found a local tyre place, it's where the taxi drivers and such go.... It's not pretty, there are no fancy waiting rooms or reception areas, but I got 3 Bridgestone Turanza's for £30 less each than the best online price..... Fully fitted. Saving £90.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I use a local place, but I also have used Kwik Fit when they had deals on- no issues. If your getting tyres from them, not too much to go wrong you can't see. Ignore them if they say brakes, or just say you'll bare it in mind.0

Surprised no one has mentioned Costco yet. They're the cheapest place normally that will fit them for you.0

I've normally go for Continentals from blackcircles!0
