MSE News: EDF Energy price hike to hit thousands

I have spoken to EDF today, i told the guy that i intend to switch, and that the notice to end online v5 was inadequate bearing in mind the switch process is 6-8 weeks, he has told me that i will be kept on online v5 tariff for 60 days from 1st Aug in order for me to find a new supplier, i have confirmed this by email to them today and hope they keep to their word.0

I am looking, like many others, to change from EDF but am concerned that most other providers are now only giving the dual fuel & internet discounts at the end of the year as a loyalty discount.
Does this mean that if my gas & elec are going to cost £600 for the next year before the discount they are going to draw £50 pm & then credit me with about £105 next August.
I was thinking of going with Npower on Go fix 2 but when this tariff finishes I will probably need to change supplier again but it think I will be in credit (£105 discount) which it will probably take them 6 to 8 weeks to refund.
Is this correct or am I thick/cynical or just confused?
Many thanks0 -
The price exemption is, as some stated, only available to those who are changing suppliers.
If you have added this to your account for 60 days and have no intention of changing supplier, you'll be backdated for the 60 days and charged at the standard price x0 -

If you say you are with another supplier but with rest of details the same it recommended EDF online V6 as only about £6 a year dearer than the cheapest.
Have stayed with EDF and transferred onto V6 over the phone with them. Much easier and quicker than changing suppliers and they have changed me over from the date that V5 ends.
Just wanted to point out so people realise that online comparison sites prefer you to change suppliers so don't always show compettitive alternative tariffs from your current supplier.
Like IfIt one phonecall from me got me changed from V5 to V6 on the day, easy. And on a comparison EDF V6 was only a whisker away from the cheapest provider, so left it with EDF. And yes, know I could have changed and may have got some cashback but EDF suits us for now.0 -
Quidco now offering £100 for switch to Scottish Power.Done a quote and it's £40 cheaper for the year than EDF,plus the quidco, makes this a good deal for me.Switched last night.0

I've never looked at what tarif i was on until i found this thread, at the moment i am on V3 for gas and V2 for elec. I guess i am paying well over the top on both these tarifs, is the V6 tarif much differant to what i am paying?
Thanks0 -

It depends on where you live, how much you use, how you pay and the exact tariffs you are on (there are several 2s and 3s)
But if you are an average user and they are the Online S@ver tariffs then you could save more than a tenner a month.
Have a look on a comparison site yourself or telephone EDF on their Freephone number.0 -
Thanks, i'll ring them tomorrow, i have just tried Moneysupermarket and putting in my post code and both "medium and high" user (as my gas falls in the "high" user and Elec in "medium") it comes back with a average of £295 savings per year on V6. If they won't let me switch tarifs i'll Quidco a switch. Thanks again.0

I am looking into my options and the comparison sites suggest I will be better off with E-On. Other suppliers might be offering (via Quidco) higher cashback, but E-On still appears to be the cheapest for me.
Spurred on by the success stories above, I have emailed EDF to inform them of my rejection of the 'switch' to their Standard tariff and asked them to hold my account on v5 until my change of supplier has been completed. I await their response and will update this thread asap.
Edit: Arrgghh! The E-On website is down for maintenance!
Edit #2: I've had a reply from EDF. It's pasted below. I've kept the name visible. I see no reason to remove it, but if the mods think it shouldn't be there...Thank you for your e-mail dated 10 August 2010
I am sorry to hear that you have decided to leave EDF Energy. I have noted your account and can confirm your prices will remain the same for up to 60 days while your supply transfers.
If you have any further queries please advise in another e-mail.
Kind regards

I'm already with Scottish Power but all the comparison sites are saying that EDF is much cheaper for me.0
