I'll second that Kimbo...nothing in particular to say just a quick message of support to everyone!

  • Is it just me? I have been smoke free for 12 days now, and have found it hard but am very proud of myself for doing it.

Problem is, I feel AWFUL! I have been ill since the day I quit, i have a sore throat, and stiff neck,P Pains that are the worst I have ever had and I just don't get it!

I thought giving up was supposed to make you feel better?!

Help! When will I feel better??

  • It gets better honest!

I had the sore throat and also really bad heartburn for about a week but I now feel tons better, especially my breathing, keep it up, it really IS worth it and congratulations on your first 12 days of smoke free life!

Good luck and keep it up!
  • I hope I do start feeling better! I am defiantely not smoking again - I don't even want to anymore, the cravings are much better and I even forgot to put my patch on this morning and it wasn't that bad! My daughter is so proud as well, she puts a big cross on the calander for me every morning!

I am going to see if I can go on the lighter patches as I am still on the first ones....I have lozenges as well for the bad moments - do you think these could be causing the sore throat??

    Thanks!!!

Yes, I think they might. Why not try going a day with only the patch and not take a lozenge? See if (a) your throat gets any better and (b) if you can get by without them.

Hope everythings going ok for everyone

  • Will try that - I haven't had a lozenge today and am feeling ok so far (although Mother coming round in a minute which always sets off the cravings...):rotfl:

I'll try and go without today - am feeling alot better than yesterday so thats something!

Anybody have any tips for first time drinking since giving up? My birthday is coming up and i think drinking without smoking will be my biggest challenge - Last time I gave up I didn't drink at all ( i was pregnant!) and when i did drink was straight back on the evil fags........
  • Congratulations to those who have given up. To those who are thinking off it, stopping smoking is the action that will have the biggest effect on your health and life expectancy. And of course save you money.

Remember patches, gum, lozenges etc are available on prescription from your GP (and in some cases nurse or pharmacist), and you will get more support than if you purchase over the counter. Prescriptions will also save you money (I had a prescription last week for seven packs of patches - retail price is £17.99 per 7, so £6.65 is an absolute bargain).

Don't skipit: it sounds like you have peripheral vascular disease. This puts you at much higher risk of a heart attack or stroke. Your symptoms should have improved since you stopped smoking. I also hope your are on medication: aspirin, a statin and blood pressure drugs (if your BP is raised).

Flipped, look back through the thread. I had my 21st party not long after giving up and, you know what, I felt liberated by not smoking. It felt so good to go out and not worry about whether or not I was in an area that I was allowed to smoke in or whether I'd be p!ssing anyone off. I thought drinking without smoking would be difficult but I can honestly say that it doesn't bother me in the slightest. If you want anecotes PM me.

Cheers (and hope the mother coming round didn't cause cravings that were too bad!)
