Well done all.
Hope you don't mind my dropping by?
I think it's so difficult to give up smoking but sooooo worthwhile. When i had my heart scare the first thing the health profs asked was do you smoke/ how many. (I gave up 30 years ago). One consultant told me that if you give up before you're 26 they deem it as if you've never smoked. It's worth thinking about where you want to be 10, 20, 30, or 40 years from now.

Good luck to you all!
I gave up 2 weeks ago today - feel morally good, but my body is complaining (which scarily shows how much those little white sticks control us!). Just started the ex-smokers cough, but it's good to get all the crap out and it's so nice not stinking the whole time!!!
Keep it up!

Ragtimeplayer wrote:My silkquit meter says I have saved £154 by not smoking this last 4 weeks ( I used to buy them at £2.50 from the local dodgy dealer).
Its strange that I cannot seem to find this mysterious £154 in my purse!
Where and how did we manage to find it in the first place?
I know exactly what you mean! Where is all the money I used to spend on cigs?? I should be well off - ex 30 a day.
I have put the odd tenner into my BS, bought a new printer, some 'new' clothes from charity shops, treated myself to fav perfume (helped with Boots voucher from Pigsback!), that's about all.
I'm going to have to write down every day what I spend. ( I say that but I won't keep it up:o ).
But, hey, the house smells good, I smell good (I hope!!) and I'm made up with myself for quitting.:j
PS
Last October I was scared into quitting by being told by a surgeon that if I didn't stop smoking I was in danger of losing a leg within the next two years - circulation problems.
I was told pain in legs would ease when I quit, but it's not happening, pain still just as bad.
Does anyone here have the same problem?

HI, just a quick update to say I am still smoke free after stopping smoking 6 weeks 5 days and 23 hours ago :j
I went on a train for the first time since I stopped and for some strange reason, I got a real urge to smoke once I got off the train, weird!
I will never smoke again that I am certain of but I do miss it in a strange way which is stupid I know but I am sureI am not alone in that..

Hi Ragtime
Well done! funny we both decided to do updates at the same time :rotfl:
I know what you mean about missing it, I went to see holiday on ice last week, and when we came out (after being in there for 2 and a half hours) I really wanted a ciggie!0 -

You know what Nicola, it wasn't the hardest thing I have ever done, in fact, it was so incredibly painless, I am still in shock!
I was a 40+ a day smoker who absolutely could not go longer than 15 minutes without a cigarette.
My family and obviously myself are all still amazed at how easy it was, I say this totally seriously.
If anyone had asked me beforehand, I would have said I would never stop smoking as just the idea of being without a cigarette scared the life out of me, never mind the actual reality!
The truth is, after reading Allen Carrs book, it opened my eyes and I believed him when he said it wouldn't be hard to stop.
That I think is the important thing, you really have to believe it won't hurt or it will be painful.
If I had thought it was going to be hard, I am sure it would then have been excruciating!
But because he calmly pointed out the reality of nicotine and that the actual withdrawal symptoms were so mild, I wasn't scared to stop and found it a breeze :j .
I think the best thing all the health centres and stop smoking centres could do would be to give a pamphlet based on Allen carr or Nick Casey's ideas to anyone considering stopping and it would make a dramatic difference to the success rate of people wishing to stop.
Sorry for rattling on (do I sound like a preacher!), but as it seemed so easy for me to stop, I would love other people to get out of the trap I was in also.
I truly wish you all luck in your quest to stop , fight the good fight!Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
Well done tyranny and Ragtime. Pleased you guys updated. I thought it was just me that was still so excited about the fact that I am still not smoking since 29th Dec.
I know I will not start again Ever!!! I thought the hardest thing would be when I went out on a Sat night to the pub with my mates. (Don't do it much, so first time this year) As soon as I walked into the pub I could smell the stale smoke. (That was a first.) I didn't even remotely fancy a ciggy, even though my friend was smoking. And when we walked outside I couldn't beleive how ghastly I smelt. And when I woke up the next morning my pillow smelt of fags. I was so grossed out.
The strange thing I noticed though, is that the area in the pub that was non-smoking was empty. Everyone was in the smoking area (me because my friend smoked) but that just showed me really how much the smoking ban may affect things more than I thought. But I'll be okay, just there will be no-one else in the pub.:D0
