I dont know if this is of interest to anyone but in my local gazette (thurrock) this week there's a voucher you can take to your pharmacist for 5 weeks worth of nrt. for the price of a prescription. might suit people who don't want to go to the docs for their nrt.... if you are prescription charge exempt you get it free.
I'm lucky my doc just writes me out a script for patches without making me go to the clinic and i am exempt from charges.
Thanks for that infoI don't we have Thurrocks round here, but I will ask the doc if he'll prescribe NRT's for me. Also, I think the NHS quitsmoking clinics give free prescriptions for NRT?

Pam: I don't think Thurrocks is a shop, I think Cantcope was referring to the Thurrock Gazette, i.e. the local newspaper for Thurrock in Essex. It's evidently published by Newsquest so if your local paper is a Newsquest one it may be worthwhile seeing if they have a similar offer.
Cheers

I've recently looked in Boots, Rich, and couldn't see it. Try Superdrug and if you have a Wilkinson's store near you, that's where I got my last tub of it.
It's about 99p in there.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 350 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm pretty sure I've seen it in 'Superdrug' or one of the big supermarkets (Tesco) It's great stuff for getting rid of nicotine stains.

Thanks, Pam. It is good stuff. I actually use a bit with floss to get rid of the stains between your teeth.
It's been 25 hrs now since my last cig. had a wee craving before and popped some gum in. On the whole it's been a very good start.
Good luck with giving up, Pam!

Thanks Suki ! And congratulations on one day quit !
The first few days really can be rough going, so well done to you.
Just heard today I'm going to need an operation (nothing major, but its a general anaesthetic). The Consultant told me I really have to give up smoking so that I'll heal better and quicker. Thats one heck of an incentive to quit isn't it - going to get my quitsmoking classes booked on Monday, when they're open.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Pam. It really does help. The smallest success seems huge right now! Hope it's nothing too serious with your op, Pam. It is an incentive to quit. I have had a few inhalers over the last 3 years for bronchitis, and I think I have a wee bit of asthma. One night last Sept. I had the most frightening experience where I could not get my breath.
I haven't actually used my inhaler for several weeks now, I think I used it a lot to begin with coz psychologically, you start to cling to it. Chest actually feels clear today, although I may get wheezy as the days go by without the cigs - hopefully not though.
Another thing too, my dentist said that if you quit smoking your gums are healthier, regain their pink colour and heal quicker. I had no idea that smoking affects your gums.
Anyway, normally at this time, I'd be feeling quite tired and sluggish but thanks I am sure to a fag free day, I actually feel bright eyed and bushy tailed.
What NRT are you using Pam? I'm not sure patches work for me. Certainly not in the early days. Problem is I work from home, and it's harder for me to change my routine, so at the moment i need the gum in my drawer to help me over the weaker moments.
Bought a mango fruity candle today and the house smells lovely for a change! :j :j

Hi Suki - smoking definitely affects gums and teeth - my dentist has told me that also. I enquired recently about having a veneer put on one of my teeth thats a bit discoloured - he said that while I was still smoking, it was a pointless exercise, as the veneer would discolour as well. Very honest of him, but something else that reminded me what a mugs game smoking really is.
I think I might go back on the nicotine lozenges when i quit - the patches really irritate my skin. I'd like to go cold turkey really, instead of prolonging the addiction (NRT's a just another form of nicotine delivery really, but minus a lot of the toxic stuff in ciggies), but am worried about how bad tempered I might get without something to help.
It's only a small op thankfully - in one day, home the next. But the incision will heal a lot better if I'm not smoking. Had a major op some years ago when I was a non smoker, and the surgeon said I'd heal a lot faster as more oxygen reaches the tissues etc. I think today's news has really spurred me on to quit again. Its always the build up to the first day quit that seems to be the worst - the actual day itself never seems as bad in comparison, somehow.
Keep me posted how you're getting on - be proud of yourself

Hi All,
Well I'm 4 days in to stopping the smokes and it's all going surprisingly well so far, although didn't sleep too well last night.
I've not really had any cravings to speak of. This is the longest time I've not had a cig since starting smoking.
So at 4.15pm today I'll start Day 5. I'm very pleased.
Anyone else stopping to help ease their debts?
Suki
