Stopping smoking - yes again!

suki43 wrote:Hi All,
Well I'm 4 days in to stopping the smokes and it's all going surprisingly well so far, although didn't sleep too well last night.
I've not really had any cravings to speak of. This is the longest time I've not had a cig since starting smoking.
So at 4.15pm today I'll start Day 5. I'm very pleased.
Anyone else stopping to help ease their debts?

:T :T CONGRATULATIONS SUKI - WELL DONE!! :T :T
I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to take that first step, but I will get there.
Last time I quit, I saved the money in a jar for a month, and then treated myself. I know we're trying to save up money to help pay off debts, but you deserve one treat!!

Hiya suki,
My answer is - YES!
Well done you, it's not easy is it. Just keep telling yourself - been fag free for days, be stupid to start again.
I still get the odd twinge, the feeling only lasts for a couple of minutes. In that two minutes I tell myself that no way can I afford cigs - and they would make me stink!
Stay strong and possitive :T :T:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -
Thanks Guys for your support.
No it's not easy, Don't Skipit - so far though this has been the easiest time for me. I think I changed my mindset, and the buzz I get now is knowing that I am getting healthier with each passing day. And yes, if I had a cig today, the last 3 days would have been wasted.
I have had a couple of cravings, but like you say, it passes within minutes. One poster suggested looking at cravings as "memories" of when you would have had a cig by now. I have probably saved more money that that stated below but I am working on 10 a day.
Thanks for your support too, Pam. I didn't actually have a last cig last Thursday - at least I didn't know it was my last cig at the time. I thought this approach my make to big a deal of stopping, so I just casually told myself, I don't think I'm gonna smoke anymore.
Right now, it's like losing a friend, that I kinda miss, but who I know wasn't really a friend in the first place!
How long have you not smoked for Don't Skipit?

I didn't stop smoking to ease debts per se but I did stop smoking to save money. Then again I'm not sure I'm really succeeding on that level given that I spent nearly £100 going out over the weekend. At least none of it was on fags!

Rich
Well done to you on giving up the fags
I wish I'd had the brains to give up smoking at your age before it took such a hold on me.
Congrats!

Thanks Pam. I can't help but wish I never started though. I hate the fact that people who still smoke want to test you once you've stopped. It genuinely doesn't bother me being around smokers but it does !!!!!! me off when they try and get me to start again!
I think it's now time to concentrate on not spending so much on beer
Cheers

I too wish I had never started, Rich. Like most people, I started having a few on a Friday night, which then led to buying a pack for a Friday night, and then one more in the week, and then I just became a regular smoker.
I smoked for 6 years so I hope I have not done too much damage!
Chest been clear and I definitely have more energy today.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 350 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yeah its so easy innit, I started when I was 13 (a few with my "mates" on an evening and in the alleyway after school etc) by 16 i was on 20 a day and stopped a month before i turned 21 so thats nearly 8 years! Damn i only just worked that out. I kept telling myself oh its ok I haven't smoked long enough to do any damage but it adds up sooner than you think. Good luck everyone, it really is worth it. And if smokers do taunt you, don't worry you have the moral high ground and they'll be laughing on the other side of their faces come june!#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Aye, well the smoking law in Scotland (live in Edin), is already well established now. I remember last year, I had to fly to Edin from Gatwick, and seeing smoking in a hotel was really weird. It is nice going out to the pub and not coming home all stinky!
I think most of my pals have given up actually and everyone has been supportive. Just have to be strong.
Had a bad craving this afternoon, though! Woo. Got through it, though.
