Splendid, Ragtimeplayer! I'm really made up for you that you feel so confident and happy about being a non smoker. Well bloody done! I could have had one today (I know, I know...) because I got myself a bit upset, then realised that that would have been a stupid thing to do - it wouldn't have made me any less upset would it?

Am a bit worried because I'm going out on Thursday night with a load of smokers; I know I shouldn't be; I've not had a cigarette since October, but I'll be very very careful :)

Thankyou for your post Rich and for validating my stop smoking post!

I know what you mean about going out with other smokers. I haven't seen my brother or sister inlaw since I stopped as 1 of my great pastimes was to drink tea and smoke cigarettes in their kitchen while mulling over the family gossip, days long gone but I don't miss them.

I feel 100% sure that I will never smoke again although I had a pang the other day and wondered what it was, it has been so long that I didn't recognise it!

I read somewhere this 1 line, and it hit me hard and its been one of the main reasons why I haven't crumbled. It might not mean anything to people who read it but it was quite deep to me.

Its quite simple and its this:

    Cigarettes do nothing for you.

    End of.

  • Well done you!

Its like Allen carr said in his book, you originally wanted to be a smoker but after you stop you end up feeling sorry for smokers, that is so true and I thank the stars for whoever introduced me to his book in the first place.

^This is exactly how I feel.

I knew about the book a long time ago but didn't think it would work, but then reading lots of posts on here convinced me to try it.

I was in a pub at lunchtime today and it was full of smoke - unbearable - I couldn't wait to get out. I still stink.:(

  • My silkquit meter says I have saved £154 by not smoking this last 4 weeks ( I used to buy them at £2.50 from the local dodgy dealer).

Its strange that I cannot seem to find this mysterious £154 in my purse!

Where and how did we manage to find it in the first place?

I know, when I was a smoker I could always find money for cigarettes (obviously at the expense of something else, like food, etc.). A lot of my friends still smoke, but I've been good :) Although I really enjoy the cigarette breaks so I still go out with them, I just don't have a cig! But I still get the goss etc.

People smoking around me genuinely doesn't bother me. I don't feel repulsed and nor do I (generally) feel like I want one. I think it's just because I had a bit of a "pang" earlier on that I feel insecure about how good I'll do whilst drinking, but I have been drunk countless times since quitting and haven't had one. So I'll be fine :D

  • Another thing I realised today also...

I was putting the washing away and normally I store my hubbys things in our sons wardrobe to avoid them smelling of smoke (it has never bothered me with regards to my clothes as I couldn't smell it) and for the first time since we moved in 18 years ago, he was able to have his clothes in the same room as where we sleep!

I know this might not seem a big deal to some but to us, its massive.

You don't realise until you stop, how inconveniencing smoking is to your daily life.

My house still smells of smoke evey now and then as it is in the carpets and curtains which I haven't got round to changing yet ( lazy I know lol) plus it is also on what I thought were clean clothes in the airing cupboard!

I can smell smoke from a 100 paces now and shudder to think what I must have smelt like for the last 23 years...

Yep - you just don't realise what you put yourself through for the "privilege" of being a smoker until you stop do you? My life is a hell of a lot easier now I don't smoke.

    Rich

PS - smokers no longer going out on Thursday night. I'm happy :)

  • I went to visit a really good friend of mine yesterday who I have been avoiding as she is a smoker :(

I was a bit nervous as we always sat in her kitchen and had coffee nmd cigarettes, it was fine!

She didn't smoke in deference to me and we had a great time catching up on the gossip :)

It did feel a little strange but in a good way :D
