Just found this thread, I am normally scouring the reclaim bank charges one. My new years resoluition was to sort out my finances, which also means stop burning money.

I have started a new job and I am the only smoker, it is very lonely going outside on my own and I am always aware that I smell. My friends have all given up. My partner and kids kick me out into the garden (quite right).

I think it is time I gave up, I have previously tried the patches which made me feel ill, and the tablets from the stop smoking class which did not do anything.

Reading your stories has been a real inspiration, I will try and get a copy of that Allen Carr book. Any other advice would be welcome.

    Thank you all

Allen Carr works for a lot of people. Not to put me off, but for me it didn't. There's no need to argue about which is the 'best' book, because everyone's different, but I just want to say to you that if you find Carr doesn't work DO NOT be disheartened. Neil Casey's Nicotine Trick worked a lot better for me and don't forget we are all here to support you. Best of british

  • Just dropping in to say hi to my buddies. Very glad to see so many of you have cracked it or are well on the way to doing so.:T

To those hoping to quit, you will find some great support and advice here, living proof that it can be done, and that it needn't be hard work. You can do it - you just need to find the method to suit you - and if a method's not discussed here (or other threads), it's probably not worth discussing.

fantastic, glad to hear it. I had a bit of a "craving" the other day, i was in threshers and I nearly heard myself asking for 20 sovereign, had to stop myself, I don't know what got into me! Very strange!

  • Best thing you can guys can do :) I gave up 6 years ago now, used to smoke 30 a day, was a hellish 6 weeks to start, I used to dream nightly about smoking. The dreams slowed to one a month for first 6 months and then disappeared. I do still occasionally get a mild craving when I smell a newly lit cigarette but generally the smell repulses me. Roll on July 1st :)

July 1st represents nothing but the removal of freedom of choice from citizens by the government. And I say that as a non-smoker.

This thread started on 9th September. How many posters who said they'd give up, have kept to their promise? Can we have a head count for those of us still dithering? It could be useful to have information such as: no. of cigs smoked daily before giving up; methods tried and used or discarded; other tips and hints.
