  • I haven't quite stopped completely yet, but on friday I did a mystery shop in a pub near us, It was SO smoky in there I didnt want to eat my dinner! We just did wht we had to and left as quickly as poss!

when i got home i stuck my stinking clothes straight in the washing machine!

Maybe I am getting closer to being a non smoker after all!!!

what I said to Merlin! (I just had a sniff of the scarf I was wearing, and that too is going in the washing machine!)

Took the day off to help DH stop. He told me today that he started 2 days ago but didn't want to tell me because I was having a bad day. Yes, and without ciggies too. So, that's one days annual leave I won't see again.

I still love him and I still support him and I know he feels bad but I don't understand how someone who has read Alan Carr and agrees with all the statements can't make his head understand it. He's even tried the lozenges to remove the alleged 'craving'. 8 days wasted that he is going to have to go through again, me too with the moods.

    Hi H,

    Sorry I haven't popped in for a while....:o

I was exactly the same as Mr H with AC! I read it several times, agreed with it all and understood it, but there was just something, that small one percent that makes it all click. It's really hard to explain. I think it's the certainty of 'I will never have another cigarette' that I had an issue with. I wasn't completely sure of myself. That's when I read the other book (Neil Casey) and it all just fell into place. What he says complements AC and, for me, filled in that little missing bit. Try it. Or rather, get Mr H to try it. Like I've said before, nothing to lose and everything to gain

Great to see others joining this thread :T :T well done everyone.

Give it a go. You really do have nothing to lose

As long as you never stop stopping one day you will stop for good. Even if you don't stop for good this time each day you don't smoke does your body good.

I have stopped many times in the last 6 years but I feel very confident this time. I just remind myself of all the bad reasons for smoking. Makes it easier for me.

  • yeah

I haven't really tried stopping before believe it or not!

So I guess I'll give it another go very soon.

I'm still only having 1 or 2 during the day which is still good for me!

Thanks for making me feel better :j

  • Good luck to you all - it took me many attempts to finally give up -
I gave up smoking 9 months ago today...used the patches for a week, then went cold turkey after that. The website whyquit.com scared me half to death, but I swear it was one the biggest factors in this quit being successful...have a look, it might work for you too :)

Well done for getting to wherever you are in your attempt to give up the weed - remember it's a physical addiction as well as a 'habit' (that's why it's so bleeping hard to quit!) - and again, Good Luck :)

    Hey guys

I gave up about 4 weeks ago and have lapsed once since (but ended up smoking the whole pack) - that was about 3 and a half weeks ago.

I went completely cold turkey, there are still times I feel I fancy a cigarette and that I could actually enjoy one, but I have gone too far now to ruin it :D

    Anyway, two points.

    1. I did give up earlier in the year for about 2 months then restarted (exams was the excuse; idiocy was the reason). I actually found it really easy to quit using a book called The Nicotine Trick by Neil Casey. Comes highly recommended but if you don't have time to read it there is a slightly different version available free online (see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=277371) that I used this time, it helped refresh my memory a bit about what Casey had said and encouraged me to stop again. It's only 40 something pages long so worth a quick scan?

    2. If you're not going cold turkey and plan to use NRT, Poundland are selling Nictotine Chewing Gum for £1 per pack of 24 pieces. These normally retail in Boots and Superdrug at bout £4.50 per pack, so stock up! (See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=298414). I don't know what this tastes like by the way, but hope it helps :D

And of course good luck to you all!

    Rich

EDIT: My motivation for quitting (again) was https://www.stayinghard.info. After seeing that I don't think I'll ever want to smoke again.
