Stopping smoking - yes again!

If you feel like it gets too much sometimes invest in the inhalators. Because you are technically drawing on something it helps the mind not to think about it so much. I am in to my third week and i'm still coughing a lot, I can't believe the colour of the stuff sitting on my chest  And of course I havent spent nearly 150 quid as well. Don't know where it is gone but I haven't saved any of it, makes me wonder where I got money for fags :rotfl:0

squirrel - it's not a craving, it's a memory. "Hmm, around this time I would have had a cigarette...... BUT I DON'T SMOKE. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA":dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -

Exciting news - I was chatting to someone last night (a real person, in the flesh!). No, that's not my exciting news.:rotfl:
The exciting bit is that I've persuaded them to try the Allen Carr book.
I will be monitoring the situation.still a SF nerd no.1:o

I stopped smoking on 12/05/06 after more than 12 years and 4 serious attempts. I had been reading some of the DFW posts and I sat down and worked out that I had spent more than £17k on cigarettes.
I didn't use any nicotine replacement therapy. I just decided on the way home from work that I wouldn't bother buying another packet that night, but I would wait 'til the next morning. The next morning I decided that I didn't really fancy one then either. I decided then I wouldn't have one until I really, really needed one. I think this mindset actually reduced the cravings to a minimal level for the first month. I didn’t tell anyone for the first 3 days, I didn’t want anyone else’s guilt trips if I failed.
The first 2 things I noticed were I could smell things properly and taste my food again. I noticed from about a metre and a half away if someone had been smoking, it almost turned my stomach. I went out for a meal at a restaurant myself and OH visit and what a difference, if I could I would have given it a Michelin Star right on the spot.
To everyone who has decided they’ve had enough. Good Luck!!! And to anyone who has been struggling to quit, don’t be too hard on yourself if I can make it, trust me you can too.Total Debt - £2320.48, was £4286.48

Hi Guys
I am now on Day 7 and feeling pretty good. I still have the urge for the occasional cigarette but won't give in. I've been eating lots of fruit (oh, and the occasional bit of chocolate or two!) and drinking lots of water.
My throat is very sore too and I also have an horrendous smokers cough. Still not sleeping well either so I hope this improves soon.
Apart from these niggles, feeling positive and enjoying seeing the money mounting up. I have seen a lovely handbag that I'm going to treat myself to when I've saved up enough of my not smoking money.

Took the day off to help DH stop. He told me today that he started 2 days ago but didn't want to tell me because I was having a bad day. Yes, and without ciggies too. So, that's one days annual leave I won't see again.
I still love him and I still support him and I know he feels bad but I don't understand how someone who has read Alan Carr and agrees with all the statements can't make his head understand it.He's even tried the lozenges to remove the alleged 'craving'. 8 days wasted that he is going to have to go through again, me too with the moods.
I still have moments where the memory of smoking is very strong, but I eat something instead!! (Yes, I know, pot, kettle, black).
Still. Just frustrating and I feel so bad for him feeling bad.
On a positive note, well done PinkPauline!! :T

Sorry to hear Mr Hello is finding it so hard. Difficult one to solve but there must be a solution. And of course you still love him! You don't stop just because they've got a problem that needs fixing
Are you still feeling OK yourself? That's what matters. I admire your strength
(where's TNG when you need him?)
I won't know about my possible convert for a couple of weeks... have to allow him time to get the book and read it.still a SF nerd no.1:o

Hey Squirrel
I'm doing OK. Having a really tough time at work with subtle bullying and family illness, however it's right what they say, smoking would not have made it any easier.
Just glad to be able to have a rant in an environment where you guys know what it's like!
