    Thanks lucylucky,

I have been in touch with CAB and they advised me I could contact police re: fraud. However, they said I should give DELL the opportunity to sort it out first.

The Ryans have magically managed to get the laptop back and were banging my door at 7:30am this morning to give it to me (they seemed concerned when I threatened to pursue the matter last Wednesday night when they claimed to have no idea what I was talking about).

I had already discussed this with DELL and they said they would recover it. I explained this to the Ryans and they have kept it and are now waiting on contact from DELL (good luck with that!).

It's no longer in its original packaging - however I have no idea if they have used it - not my problem. DELL can deal with it.

Quite right. You should be getting a brand laptop from DELL.

I do hope that the RYANS are indeed sh1tting themselves

    LucyLucky,

    I do believe they are!

They were rather abrupt and rude with me on Wednesday night (I was super polite I might add!) however the minute I mentioned having evidence of it being signed for by them and pursuing it further I saw a distinct flash of fear in their eyes!

They came up with a ridiculous story which I shall recount here for your entertainment:

"Our daughter no longer lives with us but sometimes gets things delivered here. When the laptop arrived we presumed it was hers as hers is broken and she was getting a new one. We took it over to her house and left it there but shes since gone on holiday. She's in Egypt for 2 weeks so we can't get it. We do have a key for her house but we don't know her alarm code. We've been trying to contact her hotel but have been unable to get in touch for her."

To me this story has a number of failings:

    1. Why did they not tell me they received a laptop for their daughter when I asked them about a laptop delivery on Wednesday night?

    2. A bit too much of a coincidence for my liking - their daughter happens to be expecting a brand new laptop from DELL around the same time as me?

    3. Neither Mr or Mrs Ryan, or their daughter noticed that it was my name (which is very unusual surname as Japanese) all over the box (DELL themselves have commented on this - saying they don't believe that at all since its written in several places).

    4. Their daughter just so happens to be away around same time?

    5. Their daughter would go on holiday, leave them a key but not the house alarm code?

Highly suspicious if you ask me!

Mr Ryans seemed concerned when I refused to accept the laptop this morning. Claimed, "It's just been a genuine mistake" - yeah right!

Very droll indeed. Sounds as if they put a little work into their bogus story, not much mind you.

Perhaps they felt that their daughter had changed her name without telling them, in the same way she forgot to tell them the alarm code.

    Perhaps indeed!

Maybe she happens to have the same first name as me and is going to Egypt to marry a Japanese man who, by a stunning coincidence, has the same family name as my husband (which is an unusual surname in Japan)!

Thanks lucyclucky - you've cheered me up! :D

    Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Maybe the Egypt trip is the honeymoon?;)

Hope you get it sorted soon

    Thanks,

I'll no doubt be back on Wednesday ranting that DELL have not refunded me! Here's hoping that I'm being cynical and that I will in fact get my money back....

I've had a Dell desktop for 6 years and any probs I've had has been sorted out very well by them.

But sadly their customer service and delivery record in the last 2 years has gone down the pan, judging by all the complaints in various forums.

If you've paid by cc you can execute a chargeback for items not delivered.

    I totally agree Laz.

If they had been more proactive in dealing with my complaint and returned calls when they said they would then I wouldn't be on here venting.

They have certainly lost my custom and I shall be telling all my family/friends to avoid them!

I'm no fan of Dell. I used to rate them very highly, but they took several weeks to repair my last Dell PC (which was supposed to take only a week) and then locate it in order to return it to me. They also lied outright to me regarding the return of my hard drive.

They used to be excellent quality and with great customer service. I wouldn't buy a paperclip from them these days.
