Kidnap Lie for house
JOBLESS mum from Somalia conned a five-bedroomed out of a council by claiming she was kidnapped by her ex husband, a court heard today.
Shameless liar Yurup Ismael, 48, told cops she had been abducted - then callously got her 16-year-old son to back up her story.
And as a result of her sob story, she was bumped up the housing ladder in Harrow, north west London and given the semi-detached property.
But she was caught when police, who spent £20,000 investigating her allegations, realised that her ex was already behind bars when the kidnap was meant to have taken place.
However, Ismael walked free from court today when a judge refused to jail her because she has five children to look after.
And she was even allowed to keep living in the house she was given as a result of her lies.
Sentencing her at Harrow Crown Court, Recorder David Halpern QC said: "Your intention was to have him arrested.
"If convicted he would have gone to prison for a very serious crime he had not committed.
"You hoped that your lies would result in the council finding you other housing and you were successful in that and thereby deprived another family of housing."
"What further aggravates your crime is that you involved your 16-year-old child, using him to corroborate your lie.
"That is a matter which should cause you great shame and is something you have to live with."
Despite her lies Ismael, whose youngest son is five, still lives in the upgraded property in College Hill Road, Harrow Weald.
Dipan Varsani, prosecuting, said: "She reported these allegations on July 3rd last year to a police officer in the street.
"She then made a statement detailing the allegations."
The brazen liar then repeated the fanciful story to council officers, claiming she needed to be rehoused to be safe.
At the time she didn't realise her former lover was in prison after being convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent at 2006.
Ismael pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and fraud by false representation.
In her plea, read at Harrow Crown Court, she said: "I admit that I made a false allegation of kidnap in respect of my ex-husband. I did not know that he was in prison and I have not seen him since 2003.
"I made these allegations because I was scared my ex-husband was going to come and hurt me and take my children.
"If I had known he was in prison I would have had no need to make the allegations.

"I accept by lying to the council about the kidnap I was dishonest. I further accept that I lied with the intent to get a new house for me and my children."
James Tilbury, in mitigation, pointed out that no-one had actually been arrested or prosecuted because of her lies and the cops had spent days not weeks investigating matters.
Recorder Halpern sentenced Ismael to eight months imprisonment for attempting to pervert the course of justice and four months for the fraud, to run concurrently, suspended for 12 months.
She was also ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work and pay £400 toward the prosecution costs, at a rate of £5 a week.

Excellent, she's done very well out of the stupidity of the local services. I'm sure this is classed a result for her.0

I'd work unpaid for 100 hours and pay £400 at £5/week for a free 5-bed house....
She's an unfit mother imho, she should have the kids taken from her and be tossed into the streets.... preferably sent back where she came from.... total disrespect for everything.0 -
trouble is - what do you do? it would inevitably cost more to stick her in jail and put the five kids into care than it would to keep paying her benefits before you even consider the future cost connected with the five children being brought up in care and therefore being more likely to be dependent upon state benefits and commit crime.
the only solution which would (i) actually save money for the british taxpayer and (ii) provide a proper deterrent would be to deport her and all of her children. and her former partner when his sentence is complete. and even if that is a possible solution under the law, then they'd just get legal aid and escalate appeals to the highest level wasting thousands in taxpayers cash, probably win and then get to stay and retain benefits anyway.0 -
If this country has such a stupid system that is so easily abused then you gives a !!!!. I just wish that I was a BTL landlord that could take advantage of this little gold mine to earn me some £££££'s0

Shes already autmomatically legally entitled to however many thousand pounds per month the 5bedroom rate is for her area of the country, i don't get why she bothered to lie aboiut it to get a council house,
when she should have just found a nice luxury 5bedroom house for the rent of her housing benefit, and just moved in there.
Words fail me.
And that takes some doing:cool:Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Face it, the kids in this case are lost anyway.
What moral standard can they glean from their primary guardian?
She's already proved she's willing to coerce them to lie for her own gains.
Seriously, we need decent hard working, upstanding immigrants.
People like this we need to offload somewhere. They spread discontent; it's worth buying off the Somali government to protect a few reference cases and send the families back.0 -
What will happen come next April to all these families with kids who cant afford the rent when HB goes down?
All these big houses empty, and just outside London 2 adults and 5 kids in a studio flat?0 -
