of course you missed that i was also referring to forgiveness in terms of historical wrongs.
as for kindness, perhaps allowing this lady to stay in the house with her children is not causing such a great a harm to others as evicting her might.
Have you any idea what she could have, and would have, put her ex-partner through in pursuit of her posh house?
Actions should have consequences and allowing her to remain in her really nice house is not the sort of lesson that those same children you are so concerned about should be learning.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
The kids will probably grow up to be thieves, it seems to be the way to get on with no negative consequences.Have you any idea what she could have, and would have, put her ex-partner through in pursuit of her posh house?

we will have to disagree as the character of the husband and the woman's background do matter imo. personally i have more sympathy for someone who shoplifts for food if they are poor and have suffered than i do if they are a millionaire. there is such a thing as a mitigating circumstance in my world. perhaps the judge was privvy to such facts and the sun newspaper is not (or has chosen to ignore them).
Would you feel the same if they nicked your stuff from your home?
Serious question. There was someone else on this forum a while back who had some much compassion for kids who terrorised others.
Until she got terrorised herself, mugged and injured. Her thoughts soon changed.0 -

tbh if someone was genuinely starving and destitute then i hope i would find it in myself to feel compassion it they stole from me. the right thing to do is not always the easiest thing to do.Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
God knows I am not of the "hang 'em high" persuasion but to be handed the keys of a v. nice house seems a bit ridiculous given that she could have, potentially, robbed a man of years of his life.Retail is the only therapy that works0

As always ninky, you're an idealist. Completely barmy and lacking any sense of pragmatism or moral hazard whatsoever, but an idealist nethertheless.0 -
It doesn't seem to me that ninky is an idealist but in fact has no moral compass and believes in the law of the jungle
..makes no moral judgement
and believes if you get away with anything then it's probably OK
in the same way that loads of people left flowers and facebook 'tributes' to Moat; not that they all agreed with killing people but nevertheless..... (add you own justification why its OK... his wife is a !!!!!, he was persecuted by the police... he awas misunderstood as a child ......0 -

Ninky, seems idealistic in the sense of (a) forgiving the lady for lying, and (b) thinking taxpayers can afford to house individuals like this lady and her family in expensive homes.
It's the same with ninky's belief that the UK should run an open border policy. It's an idealistic viewpoint, but completely impractical.
From her personality/viewpoint I'd guess that she's either unemployed or works for the BBC, and is probably dating or married to a migrant. Probably from somewhere in the middle east.0 -
What about the family she stepped over who would have got the place if she had not submitted a fraudulent application. They may not agree with you.
we don't know who they are or if they are more worthy recipients. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

.
well no i don't think we can. but that is a different issue isn't it. and counters the view that she kept someone else from the list from getting the expensive house - because surely your argument is that no one on that list deserves a 'free' home like this.
there is also the issue that the house is only this expensive because some landlord thought they could up the rent for housing benefit. in which case, who is actually playing the system? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0
