a woman of somalian origin lies to move up the queue for housing.
but how many of africa's resources have been unfairly exploited by western countries including the uk?
it's not hard to see why many of these people feel historically justified to take all they can. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

You what?
Run that by me again.0 -
it's not that complicated.
To you, clearly not - to me, it is.
You appear (?) to be implying that everyone in this country, every working individual, is guilty of some kind of inherited guilt towards this person or her ancestors (?), presumably via their ancestors, unless you're all suggesting we've all individiually been to Somalia on holiday and nicked stuff.
Pray tell us more. Exactly how does this collective guilt work, and how far does it extend? Precisely which countries have we wronged, as a nation? And when exactly - if ever - will we have expiated our guilt sufficiently that we will no longer be deemed to be required to be their nations's providers for ever more?
Do tell. I find your world view absolutely fascinating.0 -

.
and you and others seem to be implying that the resources of this country belong to every man woman and child in this country (unless they immigrated - in which case it's all a bit blurry).
i find it more helpful to concentrate on doing as little harm to others rather than obsessing about the harm we perceive others to have done to us.
out of interest, at which stage has one sufficiently put into the system to feel one has a greater claim to it than others? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
From my point of view, in a nutshell, you either have morals or you don't.
Where you come from and how you may have been supposedly wronged by history is neither here nor there.
Fraud is fraud is fraud.
I'm with michaels in seeing this woman's origins as basically irrelevant.
There are those on this thread who see that as an extra stick to beat her with; you, however, are in a special place, as you appear to believe her origins give her some kind of excuse that mere natives don't have.
I find that pretty repugnant.0 -

Right, I'll get casting then - I can assure you I've never ever lied that my husband was in jail in order to get an expensive house. Have you? Has anyone you know?
It's not exactly in the bounds of normal behaviour, is it? Even normal sinning, if you wish to describe it as such? It's criminal.0 -
Is it just me or has half the forum been infected with some kind of virus that induces hallucinations of entitlement recently?
Since we are handing out posh houses and free money to the middle classes and anyone with a grudge against our now defunct empire, I would like to claim my slice of the benefits cake.

I don't see what the fact that the lady originated from Somalia has anything to do with the story. Once someone has the right to stay in the country their past immigration status should not be issue either positively or negatively.
Once a person has a right to stay, immigration history is still relevant. If you have indefinite leave to remain you are still liable for deportation if criminal offences are committed, and ILR lapses if you don't live here for 2 years or more....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
