As the police often say, all their hard work is often completely undone by a single judge. The police then get it in the neck for not cracking down.

It's no wonder people flock here. Reading this story will just make more people think "I have children, they couldnt punish me either, worth the risk".

It's very difficult to revert from this namby pamby "can't do anything because of the children" mess we have found ourselves in in this country. Look at most other countries and this sort of thing would have you banged up regardless....but then, on saying that, this sort of thing couldn't happen anyway as they don't leave themselves open to such stupid abuse, spend thousands cracking down on the abuse, only to say "oh well, kiddies, no, can't touch".

People like this we need to offload somewhere. They spread discontent; it's worth buying off the Somali government to protect a few reference cases and send the families back.

Somalia doesn't have a functioning government, so I doubt that is really possible.

I don't see what the fact that the lady originated from Somalia has anything to do with the story. Once someone has the right to stay in the country their past immigration status should not be issue either positively or negatively. I am sure most of us have some foreign heritage (Romans, Saxons, Normans, Irish, Scots etc.).

If we get that out of the way there are important issues around the cost of housing benefits and how as a society we can sanction those who depend on the State. As noted above it is hard to come up with a sensible punishment without putting taxpayers to more expense and socialising the upbringing of large numbers of children but without any reasonable deterrent there is obviously no disincentive to fraud. In this context the capping of HB seems lie at least a small step in the right direction.
    I think....

Sorry but I don't agree.Such a wishy washy opinion is exactly why we are still seen as an easy touch and the "Land of milk n honey".

Firstly how did she get here? As far as Im aware Somali Air hasn't flown here for years, so that means if she did in fact fly here she came via another country and in doing so she/they broke international law by NOT claiming asylum in the first free country they entered.

If however they came via Calais they should be sent straight back. This problem has got worse because of Labours years of failure to get a grip on the problem, together with its social engineering projects. The previous Conservative government did little to adress the problem either.

I would also say she has TOTALLY abused the goodwill of the people of the UK.We gave her santuary (supposedly because she was in fear of her life) and she took advantage.IMO even if they have the right to stay it should be set in law that the moment you break the law(not minor offences like motoring etc) you have your rights recinded........

Her husbands already behind bars, its another case of the UK being a dumping ground for the worlds Scum and economic migrants..

"Rights should not be free they should be earned"...........

The Human Rights Act is not fit for purpose in the modern age and so we should pull out of it..........

If you check your History you will find that when the Romans and Normans came here they had NO rights, they fought for what they had.The Scots are part of the Union and as such have a Right to live here and the Irish are part of the EU .....

OK - so if someone born here (does their parents' country of origin matter? How about grandparents?) commits fraud that is ok whereas if someone who we as a country have decided has a right to stay here does the same it is reprehensible? By all means disagree with the immigration policy but I don't see how it impacts on how to deal with a fraud.
    I think....
  • she should be dragged into the street and beaten to death. her children can then sort out the mess - whilst living on the street, because OBVIOUSLY they will lose the house.

this illustrates everything that is wrong with this country.

No its not ,if someone is born here they abide by our laws.I don't have any problems with say 2nd,3rd generation imigrants who came here.I have a good friend who was kicked out of Uganda in the 70,s....They have never broken any laws and are hardworking law abiding. If they did break any laws they should be punished in the same way that I should.

whereas if someone who we as a country have decided has a right to stay here does the same it is reprehensible?

BUT we don't have any say in it, its all down to the Human Rights act driven by Europe ,not the UK.What "Rights" do we have to sort out a problem that we didn't cause.

The case in question does impact on the subject because the woman in question has abused the countries good will.

Theres an old saying "You don't bite the hand that feeds you".

Surely someone taking the p*** wageslave. If not.... the country's in an even worse mess than I imagined possible!

Yesterday (I think it was yesterday) someone posted on another thread that cleaning jobs were beneath the unemployed middle classes.

Today we have someone who is fine claiming benefits as long as they can do it from a nice house in a nice area. The fact that their benefits are being funded, in part, by working class people in tacky council houses doesn't seem to strike them as even slightly ironic.

It is becoming more and more clear to me why the country is in the mess it is in. Far too many people seem to imagine they are entitled to a house and a standard of living they can't afford. And they seem to have no qualms about the rest of us financing it.

    Welcome to Great Britain 2010.............

Where are you deporting her to? Harrow?

somalia. i'm not suggesting it is something that could actually be done under the law as it currently stands, just saying it was the only solution i could see which would actually produce a proper deterrent effect. cheat the system and citizenship/ILR/refugee status is revoked.
