DLA fraud check

Again, true up to a point. No-one really objects to having to prove the validity of their claim. But then again, don't forget either that you pay National Insurance (the clue is in the word insurance), to cover this eventuality. If you've paid in, you are are entitled to take out.
We none of us have a private little NI savings pot that we can dip into when it suits us. DLA claims have no link whatsoever with NI payments. In fact a lot of people posting on here and claiming disability benefits will never have or be likely to ever pay a single penny in NI.0 -

How can you be so sure of that? Many people on here are on contributions based benefits.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

You have an individual 'contributions record', a copy of which can be obtained on request (you are actually well advised to do so, given the chaos that prevails in the NI system). If your record is inadequate, your benefits (pension included), will be cut accordingly.DLA claims have no link whatsoever with NI payments. In fact a lot of people posting on here and claiming disability benefits will never have or be likely to ever pay a single penny in NI."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -

Although not claiming disability benefits for myself (but claiming carers allowance, IS etc), I have paid many years of NI and tax, with a fair few as a high rate tax payer.
My hope is to pay further NI and tax in the future....think I would go mad if I can't have that as a hope!:rotfl:
But as you say, none of us have a personal NI pot to dip into, it just goes in one big pot to pay out for everyone...so some would have paid lots, some would have paid a little less, some a bit less than that and some, none at all.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

True. Some are scroungers, others are very unfortunate. Do not confuse the two.
I don't think I do. There are some very obvious 'this is a darned good income and sure beats working for a living' and some whose problems you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy.
Hopefully David Cameron will sort out which is which and deal with them appropriately.0 -

Thank you. KK does this far too often.
I have been fighting multiple chronic illnesses since before I was 16, so I never really had time and opportunity to make NI contributions. I do wish I had! As I keep saying, I know exactly what career I want and have wanted to go into since I was a small kid, I'm just not well enough to go into anything at present - and it makes me angry, not lazy.Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. The current plan for DLA, to 'get rid of the fakers' is a scam, after all, fraud on DLA is 0.5 percent. Half of one percent.
Yet, three years in advance of introducing the new medicals, they have decided that 20 percent of claimaints will be kicked off DLA when they have their medical.
edit to add: just like they did with incapacity benefit, they have decided in advance they want to fail 1 million claimaints when they give them a new ESA medical.. Again fraud on IB is around the same level (if not less) than DLA.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -

Perhaps the economy simply can't afford the cash for all the DLA claims. That's the way I thought it was.
I understood every part of society was going to have less. That seems fair to me.
If there is to be financial pain then we should share it. Or cut all benefits and salaries by 10%, perhaps that would be preferable.0
