Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire

Hi,
I'm looking to start a new contract and struggling to figure out which phone to go for. After weeks of looking online and trawling round the shops I've shortlisted it to the Samsung Wave, Galaxy S and the HTC Desire. Given that I'm used to the old fashioned Nokias for little more than texting (as fast as possible), I can't believe I've managed to even get this far.
I do text a lot so I'm a bit hesitant with the touchscreen phones but I'm figuring I'll eventually get used to it and it does seem the way to go if I want to use facebook/gmail etc.
I don't really need to download music etc as I'll simply use my laptop for that - so I'll probably be using it for calls/texting/emails/facebook and general surfing.
I've only just started looking at cashback sites too so I'm struggling to figure out whether to negotiate a deal in store, or to purchase online with cashback. Any suggestions?
Lots of questions - hope someone can help.

HTC Desire would be my choice...this phone is on the Android system and has plenty of free apps to use, similar to the iPhone.0

Don't worry about a touchscreen for texting.
I was concerned about it but it isn't as bad as i thought it would be.
As for which phone, they are all good phones but the Desire is the winner, HTC are known for making good quality build phones and is one of the best phones on the market at this time. The Android operating system is very good and there are many many apps for you to run like the iphone. The iphone may have more apps but it comes down to functionality and the iphone has many many many apps that aren't of any use.
You have to make the choice based on your needs but this may help you decide:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3077&idPhone2=3146
and at the bottom you will see a box that says 'Replace with' so just put whatever phone in there and it will compare them.
Look at buying a phone sim free if you can afford it, you can then pick up a sim only deal from a network and save yourself a good £100 - £2000 -
the other two are andriod too! was planning on getting a desire but the 8gb memory/better screen on the galaxy s sounds great, never had a samsung before though only thing holding me backYes Your Dukeiness0

Bada is Samsungs own OS which you will find on.................Samsung mobile phones no less.0 -
I was concerned about texting on a touch screen but I find it really easy on the Desire and quicker than on my old Nokia. The predictive text is superb.
Personally I'd avoid the Wave as I bleieve it uses Smsusngs own OS so there are very few apps available at the moment.
I like my Desire but if I was buying now I'd also be tempted by the Galaxy S. The Galaxy S has a bigger screen than the Desire which is good when you're using ti but could make ti a bit large to slip in a pcoket. It also looks a bit too much like an iPhoen for my tastes. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
the samsung wave has bada the samsung galaxy s has android0

HTC Desire by a MILE. I got mine last week, really can't fault it at all (once I stopped all the processes that were eating the battery)If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
