  • Thank you everyone for your kind words. My mum is being very positive and we are all trying to be too.

The next step is an MRI scan to determine the next course of action so we are taking things one step at a time:(

  • Still on track with the clothes challenge and haven't spent anything out of my £200 budget for the year.

I have had 12 NSD'S so far in February and will be able to add a couple more before the month end.

I've signed up for a couple of surveys (Puzzcat has inspired me to do this). I spend a lot of my time on a computer as part of my job so might as well earn some extra money.

A huge milestone is within touching distance for me and that will be the first of my debts to be paid off. This was a bank loan that started out as £10k and the balance is now approx. £400...maybe I will need to change my name to Elliesten lol;)

    Take care

  • Just had a rare conversation with OH about our DMP:

Me: We reach a huge milestone soon with 15k of debt left to pay.

OH: Oh good, is that half of what was owing?

Me: No, we will have paid off over 30k

OH: You must have been hammering those credit cards.

This comes from someone who earns 3k a year (if we're lucky) and spends several times that amount...and he wonders why we were in debt:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I don't get annoyed at his comments these days, just plod on with my escape plan;)

Approaching the £15k mark now and I find that I am continually thinking about debt:o I don't want to wish my life away but find that I'm thinking about how many months left, how much I will owe at the end of the year etc. I've been patient for all this time whilst whittling away at the debt but now I feel impatient as I want it gone! Maybe it's because the figure is much lower now and some of my debts are almost paid (I will finish 2 by the end of the year).

I'm also toying with the idea of selling my house early next spring and just paying off the remainder of the debt from the equity.

Anyway, I'm up to 3 NSD's for March and still haven't bought any clothes so far this year. My £2 a day is also totting up nicely but I've had to put an IOU on my tin for today as I have no money in my purse and haven't been to the bank all week (which isn't a bad thing).

We have had some news about my mum, the cancer has been contained so they may be able to operate (hysterectomy) and we are looking on this as positive news and my mum has a great attitude so we are hopeful that everything will be okay.

I'm glad the weekend is here and the sun is shining.

    Take care everyone

I'm so happy to hear such hopeful news about your Mum. Lots of virtual hugs to you all (except OH who sounds as curmudgeonly as mine:()

Unless life with OH is absolutely intolerable (and it sounds as if you've coped with it admirably so far) I'd advise you to think very carefully about selling your home and using some of the equity to pay off the remaining debt. Unless you are thinking of buying a new home straight away you many be left with a cash shortfall especially as house prices may rise again soon with the improvement in the country's economy. After being on a DMP you probably won't be able to borrow either by a mortgage or otherwise. You've come so far and achieved so much and by next spring you'll have less than a year to go to debt freedom:j.

I know it's none of my business, so apologies for poking my nose in:o. I've been so admiring of your success and attitude to your DMP that I'd hate anything to put a spanner in the works now the winning line is almost in sight.

You are so right Carbootcrazy, the plan was always to sell the house but the recession and the economic downturn meant that we have stayed put. The house is far too big for us now our children have left home and we do have a lot of equity (enough to buy something else outright).

I know that I need to sit tight for a while longer;)

Thank you for your well wishes about my mum. It is the best news we could have hoped for in the situation.

    Take care

It must be a lovely feeling to have equity in your home, it certainly makes life a lot easier when selling and buying something different.

We're in a slightly different situation in that our mortgage was paid off years ago. It was only very small anyway, we've lived here since the 70s. We missed the boat by not moving up to more valuable properties as friends who lived near us in the early days have moved-up 2 or 3 times and are now living in homes worth twice what ours is worth. If they decide to downsize in the near future they'll have plenty of equity to buy something really nice outright and still have plenty of capital left over. OH is a stick-in-the-mud, doing the very minimum of upgrades to our house over the years and I know it won't sell for as much as the smaller/newer/more convenient type places we would want to move to. We have about half an acre of garden (being very rural) but the house, though big, is pretty basic. Pretty much everything is worn out (including me:rotfl:). I'd love somewhere near shops, public transport and a bit of life. And no garden at all if I had anything to do with it!
