A new month and a sunny day and our debt now under 14k and over 70% paid back;)
The figures appear to be coming down much faster now than they did in the old days where it looked like a mountain to climb. Each payment these days makes quite a dent and we will clear two debts before the end of the year which will give me a huge boost. One of those debts is our overdraft which started at £2,200 and is now in the hundreds and the other is a 10k loan:eek: which has a little over £200 left to go. I couldn't imagine taking out a 10k loan now, I would rather save for the things that I need...how far we have come on this journey:o
It's been a long month as I have been working away for all of it but have managed to cover my expenses and in fact have probably spent far less than I would have done at home.
On the job front, I have an interview today for a position that is much closer to home and hopefully not working away anything like as much. I would prefer to be home so that I can pop in and see my mum as much as I can.Debt Free 1st March 2017

Good Luck with the job interview, Ellie:beer:
Well done on all you've achieved so far on your debt-busting journey. Truly inspirational:A0 -
I truly believe that things happen for a reason:o I went for the original interview but found that I would probably still be away from home as much as I am now so decided it wasn't for me. A few nights ago an ex-colleague of mine contacted me to ask if I would be interested in going back to my old firm, after a quick chat I said I would be interested and now I'm waiting for my offer letter:) This means that I will be away much less, it's closer to home and they have matched my salary so this is ideal.Debt Free 1st March 2017

...so I start my new job with my old firm at the end of July:) My last day with my current company is Monday, strange day to finish but I haven't had any holidays this year at all so I'm taking a couple of weeks off to recharge my batteries;)
The whole package for my new position is much better than what I have had recently. I have often worried that I no longer have any life insurance but this will be re-instated with my new role along with many other benefits.
Plodding along with my debt-busting and I can really see the totals coming down now. I'm on the verge of completing the first of our 11 debts and by the end of the year 2 will have gone. 2016 will be quite significant as the debts start to drop off one by one and also many of the defaults also drop off our credit files:)
I'm still within my £200 budget for clothes, although I have bought a few bits and pieces recently:o
My tin is almost full to the brim with £1 coins for the saving for Christmas challenge and I have a second tin at the ready;)
We remain positive where my mum is concerned, although this is always on my mind but she looks well at the moment so we are thankful for that:o
OH has been quite a different person recently and very helpful, he's also been very busy with work which has helped enormously...long may it continue!
Take care all

Good morning Ellie,
Lovely positive post, glad life is treating you reasonably well at the moment. Long may it continue.

Busy week so far, finished one job and ready to start my new one soon.
I'm trialling YNAB at the moment and I can really see the benefits so think that I will buy the full version (budgeted for of course:)). I love my spreadsheets so I think that this may very well become an obsession:o I've been on a couple of Webinars in the early hours of the morning but as I am on holiday it's not an issue.
I'm very impatient now to finish paying the first of my eleven debts, this originated as a 10k loan but we're under £100 now (just) although SC keep reducing the amount that they are paying to the loan company which is frustrating. My overdraft is also in the final throes and will finish before the end of the year.
I'm going to be quite giddy in 2016 as the CC's and defaults either finish or drop off my credit file and I hurtle towards my DFD
Several mini milestones coming into view over the next few months and by the end of the year we expect to be below 10K;)
It's been a long road so far with it's twists and turns but with a bit of luck it will be straighter from now on -I'm always the optimist:oDebt Free 1st March 2017

What a lovely optimistic post, Ellie:j. It gives inspiration and encouragement to the rest of us who probably still have a lot further to go on our DF journey than you. What you have achieved so far has been brilliant and, speaking as one who is still struggling through some pretty awful days (sometimes but by no means always nowadays:j), I know how hard you must have worked on getting to where you are now:beer:.
I had to laugh when you said:
I'm going to be quite giddy in 2016 as the CC's and defaults either finish or drop off my credit file and I hurtle towards my DFD
I think my own giddiness will reach dangerous proportions when I get to that stage:o. At least I know I won't be going on a crazy spending spree to 'treat' myself, those bad habits are long gone:j
I don't get on here much but always catch up when I do. Thanks so much for posting about your progress. Always a joy to read:T0 -

Forgot to wish you success and happiness in your new job, Ellie:o.

Incidentally, I'm intrigued by why SC are reducing the amount that they are paying to your loan company. Surely they can't do that if your monthly payment to SC is staying the same. Have you taken it up with them? I hope they don't start messing around with my payments in the future, I've trusted them totally so far in being on my side and getting my debts paid asap.0 -
Morning Carbootcrazy,
Thanks for your reply - when you first start out on this crazy DMP journey, it really is a rollercoaster and you wonder how on earth you will manage without the cushion of a CC or a loan. I have learnt some valuable lessons along the way and those lessons will stay with me for the rest of my life. I know that I can live a full and enjoyable life without getting into debt and I can now look forward to a debt-free retirement (this was always the one thing that I worried about).
I did ring SC about the payments to my loan reducing but they said that the new figures they are paying are correct? I'm not convinced, it's only a few pounds but it still makes the loan linger that bit longer:( I think it has something to do with it being a loan rather than a CC and the contractual payments.
Bring on the giddiness for both of us!
Take care

Settling in to my new job, it's as though I have never been away!
Our debt this month will be a whisker away from 12k and edging towards 75% paid back. By the end of the year if all continues as now we will be down to 4 figures;)
OH no longer speaks to me and I am living half a life at the moment but that just spurs me on to get away from this situation once the debt is gone. I have been away to Spain for a few days with my DD so that was very welcome. I paid for my flight cash and she paid for the accommodation and I kept to a budget for spending money.
I've been trialling YNAB and have to say that I am impressed, I love my spreadsheets anyway so this was great. The trial ends this weekend so I am going to buy the full version...thanks to ChrisBlue for the recommendation:T
Still within my clothes budget for the year and think that I will easily stay within £200 for the year.
I have a tin full of £1 coins and have started on a second one, this will cover all my Christmas expenses so I don't need to worry about that. I'm conditioned now to putting my ££'s away every day and come out in a cold sweat if I don't have any to put away:eek:
Take care all
