Sorry to hear your bad news, Ellie:(.
Mine failed its first MOT in 10 years this year but it was only for a slightly blowing exhaust. Not even a full exhaust replacement needed (just the back bit) so I was back on the road for about £100:j.
Does your garage do a free re-test if they do the work themselves?
Fingers crossed that it will be a small bill:beer:0 -

Phew! After a anxious day waiting and wondering my car has finally passed it's MOT!;) yesterday afternoon, the garage rang me to ask if they could keep the car until today as they were concerned about the brakes (I only had all four brake pads replaced a few months ago). Anyway, I went in to pick up the car and they said that they thought that there was a leak or something as the brakes were very soft but on further inspection they couldn't find anything so just tightened everything up and replaced the brake fluid and it's good to go.
They've done a cracking job, I put my foot on the brake at a junction and lurched forward in my seat! The brakes are really keen now:o
They even washed and cleaned it from top to bottom so it looks quite good at the moment.
The garage does do a free re-test so everything's sorted and total cost with a full service £217 which I expected so that's another worry off my mind for a while.

Reminds me of the first time I drove OH's 'new' car. The brakes on the car I had then were a bit 'soft':( but mechanics had said they were fine and it was a characteristic of that particular make/model. Passed all its MOTs at various testing stations and never needed anything doing to the brakes so I just lived with the brakes being as they were.
The first time I had to drive OH's car and had to brake for the first time at a junction I nearly shot through the windscreen:eek:
Glad your car was sorted so quickly and inexpensively. Sounds as if you have a good garage there, Ellie:beer:0 -
Yes, Carbootcrazy the garage that I go to is really good. I've gone there for years and they always do a good job. I remember taking my car for a bulb that was out to the dealer who charged £20:eek: the next time I went to my local garage and they charged me £3...needless to say I have never gone back to the dealer:o

Yesterday was a very traumatic day for me and has put everything into perspective. My lovely mum has been diagnosed with cancer and will now have to endure surgery to keep her alive. She is 80 this year and having an operation at her age is a worry as she is not in the best of health to start with.
She remains positive (or is putting a brave face on) and says she will fight it. My parents are everything to me and to see them yesterday looking so small and sad makes me upset. My dad is 82 and was very quiet throughout the appointment and on the journey home.
Money and debt have taken a back seat for now, the feelings of helplessness that I had when I first set out on my debt free journey are nothing in comparison to the feelings that I have now and no amount of money can fix this:(
As a family we will now take each step as it comes and try to stay positive but underneath I am dreading what the next few weeks will bring:(

So sorry to hear about your mum. My mum and dad passed away just recently 11 weeks apart and I miss them so much. Even though they both had long and healthy lives it is still such a loss.
Hopefully your mum can beat this and have a good recovery. You are right though, it puts everything into perspective and helps you to spend your time on the important things in life. Keep positive and be there for them, they will be so grateful for your support. Xx0 -
Hi Ellie,
