Hello to another Farmaround customer! My daughter, for whom I buy their milk says it tastes different when frozen. Another family member is quite happy to have defrosted FA milk.

Remember that it expands when frozen so unless you remove a few teaspoons before freezing you get a distorted bottle when defrosting.

I thought it might be a bit weird because it's more like 'proper milk' ie ours often has cream on top.

  • I just bung it straight in the freezer.

Will defrost faster in a bowl of warm water & just upend the bottle a few times which gets rid of any "thin" tasting milk ;)

I've not found a non-homogenised milk that freezes well yet. It goes all bitty when defrosted.

Every week I throw out between 1-2 pints of milk  It is actually cheaper to buy four pints than the 2-3 pints we need!

Any suggestions what I can do with it, it has to be something that will either make it keep longer in the fridge or can be frozen. There is little point in making up sauces to freeze as I won't need them, I have enough fresh milk spare to make as and when required.

If it makes a difference it is full fat milk :o

    Many thanks

thanks but be honest I have no need to do that, I always have too much milk as it is, I would never get to the stage when I would need it.

EDIT: just realised what you mean. I could buy the four pints, separate into 1 pint containers to freeze and take out when needed - why did I not think of that before  I can be so dense sometimes :o

If you just freeze the excess for two weeks, you won't need to buy milk the third week :)

Feel your pain. This is exactly why I went on to buy filtered milk instead, and have never poured that away. Previously I could never 'catch' the milk before it went sour or use up enough that we were always drinking it before it turned.

If you only need 2 to 3 pints, do you have a milkman? We have 3 pints a week delivered Mon, Wed and Fri. It is more expensive that the supermarkets, but its delivered regularly and just enough to suit our needs.
