I freeze milk but want it in something i can pour from when it's defrosted. The bottles i use i think had orange juice in originally but any pop/water would do. I only fill it to an inch or so from the top so that it doesn't split the bottle, you have to try and remember the day before you need it to get it out.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

That's a good point actually. I need to remove my 6 pinter from the freezer 2 days before I need it. I slow defrost in the fridge though. Leaving it on the side or in hot water would speed up the process.0

If I take mine out of the freezer at 9pm, it's virtually defrosted 12 hours later.
After 20 years of trial and error I've found that if you keep out until there's just a few clunking ice chunks inside then pop it in the freezer to finish defrosting, bob's your aunt's fanny.
To date I've never had a tummy upset because of defrosting milk being left on the counter to defrost.Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
Hi all. Once you have defrosted your milk how long is it good to use for? Will it keep for 3 days or so or less than that?0

Oh and how long will the frozen milk itself be ok in the freezer? 1 month or 6months? or somewhere in between maybe?0

We've been freezing milk for decades - we live miles from the shops, and it's just the most sensible way to make sure you don't run out! It takes a while to defrost, so you need to be organised.
I freeze it just as it comes - any container size is fine - right up to the biggest 6 pint ones- to defrost, I would put it in the small 'veg' 1/2 sink part of our kitchen sink, and just leave it to get on with it. If I need it in less than 12 hours, I also add cold water to a washing up bowl and leave it to defrost in that (I wouldn't use warm water, as I'd think it might affect the milk on the outside edge of the container). Once defrosted, keep and use in the normal way - I've never noticed it lasting any less time than usual, so up to a week for semi-skimmed. I can only remember the container spilittting about three times in the last twenty years, so not a real issue to me. When that has happened, I've just decanted the milk into another empty container as it defrosts - it's a slow process, so there wasn't a lot of mess/waste. I don't tend to keep it for months on end, just buying enough to last till the next shop in a week or two, then rotate stock, so can't comment on how long you can freeze it for.
Hope this helps, and also apologise if I'm repeating what's already been said - I haven't read the whole thread!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
