Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm sure I've read somewhere on here but cannot find it now!
I have picked up some reduced price single pints of milk from c*-*p this morning which we will not use before they go off. I want to freeze them have never tried before.
My question - Can I just chuck them in the freezer as they are? Will the containers split due to the expansion as they freeze? Should I pour a little out of each bottle or just go for it?
Whilst they were cheap, I don't really want them going to waste, and I really don't want to be clearing up loads of smelly milk!
thanks0 -
Our milk froze itself outside over Christmas, the plastic itself expanded but didn't split or anything, I can recall somewhere reading that if frozen it should be upright - don't know if this is still true, just give it a good shake when its defrosted. It should be ok0

We use frozen bottles of milk to keep meat etc fresh on our journeys to France, just freeze normally. None have split yet. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Yeah, we regularly buy the 4 pint ones from Farmfoods and chuck them in the chest freezer. Haven't had one split yet.....

I freeze milk all the time. Never had one split. If it's Homogenised Milk (most is nowadays) Just remember to shake it when it's defrosted to mix it back up.0

I put my 4 pt cartsons straight into the freezer too...I lay the bottles on their side, (my freezer doesn't have enough space to stand upright and I don't think it's necessary either).
Never ever had a bottle split.
When it comes to the defrost, i find that placing the frozen bottle in a bucket of cold water works far better than just leaving the bottle out in the air..I seem to get a more even defrosting and less chance of the milk separating.
