Me and the other half decided that we didn't want the hassle and expense of getting married all for a piece of paper and a couple of rings. There is obviously a whole lot more to marrage than that but we can't be bothered with it as we feel that we do not need any of it to prove we love each other.

The nipper well he just sort of arrived but we had already been together for a couple of years and had alread decided a wedding was not for us. wouldn't change anything for the world

You got it right in the first part of the sentence.

If you love and respect someone, why on earth not give them the legal status of marriage? Otherwise it's like flatmates who sleep together.

    Agree completely with the OP.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

If you believe you have a good relationship and will always be together then what is the need to marry? If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Because it is a Pita getting rid of them afterwards.. expensive and time consuming and they are so not worth the hassle.

I love and respect my mother.. but I wouldn't marry her.. :p

That says so much more about you than anyone else.

Presumably you wouldn't sleep with her either? Then again, just wait until she's baptized.

Why on earth would you have children with someone you thought that about - I'm sure you must be able to get a good sperm donor quite cheaply!

Because you don't expect them to turn into a piece of crap after 20 years... you'd think you know someone.. people change.. they become people you cannot like or live with and I wouldn't want to risk putting myself through the trauma of divorce.

I don't need to PAY for a sperm donor.. I can get it without it costing a penny.. though if they wanted to pay me I am pretty skint so would probably accept it lol

Perhaps she's always previously relied on the kindness of strangers for that?
