I often go to Leek as i only live about 7 miles away from there. The great thing about places like Ashbourne, Buxton, Leek etc is that they are more affluent areas which means they have some really posh stuff in their charity shops :j
Yes, the market in Leek and the big old antiques place were a whole day out on its own! My mum loved the charity shops there too for the same reason. Congleton and Stone the same!:)
In the middle of difficulty lies oppurtunity
  • Katholicos, you made me laugh. I am a 50 something who still doesn't regularly use any sort of face cream - for years, any sort of moisturiser/make up etc gave me spots and it is really only the menopause that has sorted out my skin! Turning into the bearded lady now though altho that's another story:( Thanks for the tip about starflower capsules Frugal. Will look for them next time I'm on the mainland.

DD2 said yesterday she wants to dye her hair purple and was a bit put out that I just said OK as long as she pays for it. I don't really want her to as she has lovely shiny hair and I don't suppose dying it will do it any good but on a grand scale of possible teenage rebellions it's pretty low down I think. DD1 had green stripy hair at one point! She was even more put out when I told her that when my hair starts going grey I am going shocking pink - I am quite looking forward to it - but in reality will probaly be too lazy to do anything except let it go grey naturally!

()s to everyone who is having a tough time at the moment. They do say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and has certainly been true for me and given me a whole different life but still wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I'm a vaseline intensive care girl, twice a day. Its fairly cheap and last ages as you need so little. I am at that age where I think I might need something better but is that because the tv tells me to?:( Talking of TV, I have 2 gripes at the moment. Adverts for mascara (really, can they keep improving it? I dont think so) and laso that dettol no touch handwash. Why oh why:mad:

Looks like Autumn is definitely here, I've stripped my cherry tomatoes and the runners are finished.

That no touch handwash ad REALLY riles me, it's such a totally manufactured 'need'. Yes the top might get dirty - but then you wash your hands!!! And - wow, here's a novel thought - you can rinse the bottle top under the tap while you are at it
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

No touch handwash... Thats a new one on me! How ludicrous. They are selling fear and people are actually buying it!!! I am sure I remember reading somewhere that to be effective, antibac hand washes have to be in contact with skin for X amount of time, and as most people (the ones that bother to wash their hands ) just give their hands a quick rub and rinse, the antibac wouldn't work anyway!

My ex used to spray cleaners onto oven dishes etc WHILST running them under the tap... might as well just have sprayed the damn stuff down the plughole :mad::mad: Totally hopeless and couldn't understand why I freaked out at the wastage... Still, I guess the fact he is up to his eyes in debt and locked into an IVA whilst my finances, despite earning pitiful money, look much more healthy

Oh dear... I went off on a bit of a rant there, apologies... Feeling a bit low atm :(
  • kezlou take care of yourself, sounds like such a stressful time for you and he shouldn't be talking to you like that no matter how stressed he is.

  • Hugssss Kezlou, I agree, no matter how stressed someone is you shouldn't put up with being spoken to like that. Sounds to me you do a stellar job of stretching your money and making a nice home and life for your family!!! Good for you in sticking up for yourself - he would soooon notice if you weren't doing all you do.... have you considered boycotting one chore and seeing how he copes with it?!?!? xxx

I've struck lucky today, didnt bring lunch to work as I was so tired when I got in last night (late had been to my parents) and I still had to do some handwashing and some finances and as OH is getting taken out on a team lunch I couldn't be fluffed to prepare anything for myself. Now someone at work has way overcooked a veggie casserole and brought in to share so I am getting a freebie lunch :T

Currently using up our masses of spuds I made a yummy dinner the other night of chilli cottage pie, just added a layer of cheesy mash to a veggie bean chilli and baked to make golden and it was scrummy and did us 3 meals. I love spuds I do!

But in MHO if the product was any good it wouldnt matter if you touched the lid or anything else.

As you say trying to frighten us into an expensive purchase half price in most places at £5 !!!!!!!!!!! What a rip off.

  • I am happily testing Tesco's anti aging facial wipes, two different kinds.:D
I've used Ponds cold cream for most of my life, since I was about 15. Considering my face has seen lots of sunshine except for the last 10 winters here in the UK, my skin is not too bad.:T

I used to be really shy, really really shy, for many years of my life. I hated to hurt feelings & still do...but many people equate niceness with weakness, and then take advantage. A friend once told me that "not all people are as nice as you are "...and also that if you act like a doormat then people will walk all over you. I never forgot that because its true. :)

Trust me i'm not, i'm sick, we've been together 11 years now (i was 16 he was 20, when we first got together) and quite frankly i'm not putting up with it any more.
Losing and attending the funeral of a very very close friend of ours last week has just made me like think why should i stand for this. Our boys need a home where they not getting shouted by some toss pot who's had a long day. guess what we all have .
But i was very good today i walked into aldi needing something to cheer me up, saw a lump of chocolate and shockingly i walked away :A. Instead i left the shop and walked home instead, came back and some choc concrete instead. :T So proud of myself.

So when the !!!!! comes back he's got the worst job in the house to do, he's cleaning the outside drain muhahahahahaha

Now just had some dinner then going to see if the washing is dry, after some monkey left it out all night
