Agreed - I have been watching what I eat for years and its driven me nearly mad. I gave up about 2 months ago and I have lost 4lbs in the last 3 weeks by eating well, in fact eating a lot better and a lot more food. Not really exercising altho I really should be.

    Diets slow your metabolism.

Frugal, it's amazing when not obsessing does for you... and then the weight comes off... you will be walking more... moving more... hoovering is exercise... dusting is too!!

Just do 5 minutes more housework everyday... and it adds up :D

Jan 2009 I had just finished my 4th surgery on my knees... not able to walk more then 100 yards... and I was a very LARGE woman....

Now I can hike 6 miles over rough terrain... I walk my son to school daily (1 journey is 3.5 miles return)!!

But it's taken 1 year and 9 months! I am now losing at 1lb a week... every 5th week I gain 3lbs (from water retention) so I average 1-2lbs a month!! It's good enough for me :D

  • wait, so you lost all that weight in 1 year and 9 months? that's astonishing achievement! Darn right you should be proud lady!! I'd be so proud of you if you were my friend!
  • I will try and get back into it! But must go to bed now ladies xxx
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

    Hypnotherapy rocks :j
  • Thank you Julie, I'm loving this site (apart from the no photo thing)... OH specialises in slow cooking, whereas I specialise in things that take very short time to cook. It works out quite well, since who cooks is decided on how much time we have :)

I'm so glad I could help... I love collecting websites, borrowing books and scanning recipes... It's my main hobby!!

I have in excess of 250+ scanned and downloaded recipes on my computer... LOL many of which I will never cook :S

This week I am making Mititei (Romanian Meat sausage shaped meatballs) I got it from 'The Hairy Bikers'

I also love watching Jamie, the Hairy Bikers and come dine with me :S

My mum cooks everything in her microwave - cakes - the lot - to save electricity. I really only use mine for heating things up, principally OH's tea as I never know what time he will be in!

I've only ever used the mike for reheating and cooking jacket potatoes but i have seen the light ...and heard the ping...:rotfl:

It's pretty essential that we do not overdose on electricity hencefoth as this will be the first month my energy suppliers have reduced my payments....but sure, doesn't it always happen just before winter when we are home more and when the lights go on earlier each evening. If at all possible i want to cook foods using the mike rather than the oven, so i'm about to take a leaf out of your mother's book!

Kathlicos - this is a recipe for a yummy flapjack type cake done in the microwave - it is one of my DHs favourites. I got the recipe from this site several years ago - couldn't find it now so I'll rewrite the recipe for you. I warn you its very moreish!:D

    Jam Crumblie

    6oz butter/marg
    6oz dark soft brown sugar
    6oz porridge oats
    7oz plain flour
    pinch of salt
    half a teaspoon bakin powder
    4oz jam

lightly grease an 8" square baking dish(I use my ceramic "lasagne" dish as its microwave safe)
cream the fat and sugar together.
stir in dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
press half the mixture into the baking dish
metl the jam in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then spread it over the base,
Crumble on the remaining oat mixture, pressing it down lightly
bake in the microwave for 7 mins(full power)
cut into squares and cool in the baking dish!

the original poster of this recipe(I think it was Queenie) also did a Christmas version and put mincemeat in instead of jam and dusted it with icing sugar.

Might have to make some now you've reminded me of this recipe:D

oooooooh thanks so much for this recipe, will try to make it this week and will let you know how i get on with it :)

Thank you! I believe that the way I've done it means that 5.5 stone is off for life... never to be seen again!

Unfortunately, the only supportive people I've had is my husband, my son, and an online friend I met while losing weight!

Mos people are nasty because they are jealous... or they just don't care! Lucky I did this for me and no one else!!

Just popping in to catch up and noticed that someone was having problems with tantrums, both my sons are prone to tantrums (ASD) and I have struggled for years, but since DS6 is spending time in a specialist education unit they have been helping with techniques, and the one I am finding works best is the choice method - simply state that your DS has a choice, he can make the right choice and do as you ask or choose the wrong choice and the consequence will be ..... IYSWIM. Its effective and will help your son see that his behaviour is his choice and only he can make it. Takes a few weeks to make a difference but if you keep at it you should see rewards.

Hi .. it's me having problems with tantrums! Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go :T

    Evening All,

Ive had some bad news this morning, one of my closest friends died last night, he was only 62, and the ex OH sent me a text saying along the lines of "oops meant to tell you Micks in hospital bad and would like to see you but its too late he went last night...thought you should know" I am so so angry at ex OH, he knew he was a very close work colleague and Im feeling so bad about not bieng there...Ive contacted Micks family and explained they were very kind and they have my contact details and Ive spent most of today contacting everyone I can think of with my new address and teling them of mine and ex OHs seperation....so I will have a funeral to attend to some time next week.

Ex OH is bieng an unreasonable numpty and has set his lawyer on to mine insisting the cause for the end of the marriage be mutual seperation and not his affair with booby floozie blond secretary, no way, so looks like the gloves are off.....hes demanding I return the garden shed and the greenhouse, idiot man has never lifted a spade in his life, wouldnt know a weed from a seedling, suppose the fun begins.

The said greenhouse and shed have been erected and look lovley in there new position on my allotment, we had a jolly day with the sandwiches I made and the flasks of coffee and tea, a good time was had by all, I am so amazed at the welcome Ive had from the allotment folk, refreshes my joy in human nature and reminds me that not all folk are self obsessed and moaning miseries like ex OH.

Sorry to hear about your friend - and the delay in finding out.

Glad to hear you had a good time at the allotment - things DO look as if they are going very well there:T

Errrr.....<cough> ummm....<cough> might it just be a leetle thought to think "I'll barter with ex OH - I'll let him have "mutual agreement" as the grounds for divorce if he shuts up about the greenhouse/shed/etc and accepts I'm keeping them"? Just a thought - and you're obviously dying to grip him and his secretary "warmly by the throat" and thats well understandable. At a purely pragmatic level though - those solicitors will be clocking up the fees furiously if they possibly can - at YOUR expense...hence my suggestion of a little "bartering" of a sort - as that might keep the legal letters (cost!!!!) to a minimum.

Thats me - and I'm an arch-pragmatist to my core - so feel free to ignore me....:)
