  • Just wanted to share that I've managed to pay off one of my Credit Cards this morning. :j One down four to go!

    WELL DONE!!!!!!!!! :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

I managed to pay off a debt earlier this month and its nice knowing I have an extra £45 to play with a month now

Ceridwen - I do think she keeps an eye on us and its comforting to know that shes around and watching Ben - I wonder if she'll watch holly too although I suppose maybe its nice for her to see her being brought home as a tiny newborn and growing up in front of her eyes. :)

Will definitely put it on my blog later to see what people think.

I have to say Im on the ball today. So far this morning I have walked down and put ben in school, come home, changed holly dolly, cleaned bathroom, cleaned toilet, sorted clothes in bedroom into piles to put away, cleaned round bedroom, made my bed, tidied living room, toys away, dishes done bar one pan and cup (bloody scrambled egg!), drier on, just bens room and hallway to do but I'm going to have a nice cuppa and a warm bottle for little princess and its not even 10am yet!. x
    Time to find me again

Yeay jediteacher - well done on paying off the CC :D

Gigervamp -sorry to hear about puss :( (((hugs))) Try and take comfort in knowing that you made her last year more comfortable..

Toomuchdebt - ooh, sounds nasty. Take it easy and good luck with re-establishing b/f :)

Lindy-loo - I think helping out at school's is great - can't understand why people wouldn't think so! :D I used to help with library duties, sewing for costumes for plays etc. Harder now with DS3 around, but I'll do so again when he's at playgroup. In the meantime I'll make/ donate for fetes/ raffles etc

Re: 'other-worldly visits', I was very close to my grandad (was like a child, more than a grandchild - only just younger than his youngest and lived there as a child after parents marriage broke up) He died in 1996. I was the last person to see him that night in hospital, where he's been for a few weeks. I gave him 'permission' to go (never dreaming he'd do it then!) DH made me go out that night, and on the way back I wanted to drive past the hospital - I had an overwhelming urge to see him - he died pretty much at that moment.
Anyway, DD was due on the first anniversary of his death. She arrived late (thankfully - I didn't want to be in the same hospital 1 year later) In the corner of our loounge we had a photo of my grandad taken at our wedding. DD would look into that corner and giggle all the time. There was a CD player/ CDs, a pot plant and the photo. He was a very smiley man who loved children and DD would have been his first great gc. I'm sure he came to see her and she used to giggle at him :) I mentioned it to my nan a few years later and she very matter of factly said 'well of course - do you really think that he wouldn't have come to see her?' - and my nan is a straight talking no-nonsense sort of woman, with no sentimentatlity whatsoever.

  • If you have a microwave, try making scrambled egg in microwaveble bowl, Sammy. It's so much easier to clean.

But it is straightforward greent, isnt it ? Its just them as they always were, only we cant see them cos they on a different wavelength. I had huge problems with all this because I didnt believe in it until I was forced to, at the age of 52. I think its lovely that there is more in this world than we can see & touch, its a bit like the Lion the W & the W but for grownups :)
EDITED to add - Gigervamp in all the years I been doing spooky stuff, that one "thing" was the only evil I've ever come across. Thankfully lol or I'd have given up long ago!
  • DH's grandad died on Thursday so we're travelling for the funeral on Thursday, I just need to get the special leave signed off at work. The poor thing was such a mess over the weekend and his grief seemed to manifest as a physical illness as he complained of headaches and tiredness. It wasn't a shock but it's still very upsetting. MiL has said that DH can wear the suit he already has for the funeral which is a relief as I thought they'd say he needed a plain black one (his is black but with a pinstripe) but she said he just needs to get a plain black tie and a white shirt so that's not too bad and good things to have anyway. I thought I'd need something new as well but searched my wardrobe and found a black dress I'd forgotten I had so am sorted. So sad though.

Added to the stress we've had an inspection by the letting agents this morning, neither of us could get time off so had to give permission for them to do it in our absence. If they dare comlpain about anything (I tidied up thoroughly) I will KICK OFF big style, we've got 4 radiators that don't work (we've tried bleeding them, it didn't work), our shower hasn't worked since we moved in 2 years ago and the kitchen tap leaks not to mention the lock on the front door needing you to jiggle the handle to get it to unlock which they are fully aware of as last time they came to inspect they couldn't get in because they couldn't get the front door to unlock! I'm not in the mood for them messing me around.

Also I still haven't heard back about the job I interviewed for so presumably I haven't been successful but is it really that difficult to ring me and let me know? I know I should call them but I'm so stressed at the moment I'm not sure I can manage the call without crying, I only had about 3 hours sleep last night.

  • Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time Lambanana. Hope things improve soon.

My (very non MSE) sister told me in our last conversation that she has bought a slow-cooker, I now want one even though, as a mostly veggie, it wouldn't really be as much use to me & we also don't have counter-space for one. I will resist temptation - at least until DS is old enough to make it worth while cooking some kind of meat-based stew, as he and DH could probably polish off the whole lot between them once he's older!

Still, for now he's only 4 months old & I've just bought another two-dozen terry nappies for him. He's been mainly in muslins up until now but, DH is finding it fiddlier to get them on DS without giving him builder's bum & they also aren't absorbant enough as DS pees for England! I got a dozen normal ones & a dozen thicker ones for night-time/when he's older. I also have a dozen large pre-folds and a few terries already that I bought on e-bay so, even if he keeps up his 18 nappy a day habit, we'll still have it covered!

I winced a little at the price (though it was the cheapest I found online, £37.14 including postage) but, that's still only about 3-4 weeks in disposables at around 18 nappies a day, so it works out much cheaper in the long run. I need to cut him out some more fleece liners & we'll be sorted. :)

I was up until 2am last night as I couldn't sleep - but I found some good looking books on foraging to add to my wish list. We're a bit urban where I live at the moment but we could always take a day trip to somewhere more rural and make some entertainment out of looking for edible plants.
  • Sincere condolences Lambanana. You're having a really stressful time. Hugs.

  • well it's taken me nearly 2 hours to catch up on this thread!!! even though I've been home a week I havent had one night in yet and am only here now as I have a headache and sore throat from hell so I didnt make it into work! Think I've got a bit run down

loving the ghost stories. I totally believe in the spiritual and think I'm a little bit sensitive to it. Several times I've seemed to sense something is going to happen and have turned up unannounced to see someone I havent seen for ages just as they hear bad news so I am there to comfort.

my gran died when I was 18 months and my mum says she visited me when she died. In the middle of the night my parents heard me giggling and kiddie talking and when they came to my room and peeked I was sitting up in my cot interacting with something they couldn't see. They watched for a bit then i started waving and saying bye-bye, at that moment the phone rang to give the news my gran had died a few minute before. Makes me really glad to know she came to say goodbye as I dont have any memories of her.

Hugs to everyone needing them as always and congrats to those with better news. Well done Gailey on baby no 3:j

  • On a more OS note, OH had his first paycheck from his new job in last week so we are feeling a lot more secure than previously. As I'd made so many improvements to our shop and am meal planning like crazy now we've managed to skip the September big shop and just need the dairy / veg etc top up shops for now so thats saved us about £100 this month:j
Am impressed at how OS hubby was while I was away, he got a lot of jobs done around the house and garden, and picked lots of berries for me. MiL has given me a huge bag of cooking apples so I'm going to experiment with those this weekend.

Spent quite a bit of money the last few days as Sept is a huge birthday and anniversary month, plus I owed my dad his birthday present from June as I hadnt been able to afford until now. Felt nice to be able to go out and spend money without a blind panic about it! (although I've made sure we havent been silly and splurged anything, we'll only regret that later!)

Used a big chunk of OH's money to OP the mortgage - when things were tough I moved a payment back by 3 weeks to help the cashflow so gained extra interest on the mortgage over that time. Still need to catch it up by a couple of hundred by I feel proud we've made a bit of a dent this time.:D

Don't let not eating meat put you off having a slowcooker, I'm a vegetarian and use mine a couple of times a week, year round. I don't have worktop space for one either but I said goodbye to some other stuff to make room in the cupboard.
