Lambanana, does DH really have to have white shirt and black tie for funeral. Surely if you can't afford it, it doesn't matter what he wears. I know loads of people who just go in what they have these days. It's what's in the heart that counts.

I know that you're right but my MiL has said he must wear a white shirt and plain black tie...possibly because he's a pallbearer. I don't know. We can afford it but it's more that there are other things that money could also be spent on. If it makes his mum and his nan happy though I'll go get him the shirt and tie, it's not like it wont ever be used again.

    Hi everyone,

While I understand that you are all enjoying the ghost stories and general chat, this thread isn't really the place for it. :) Please can I ask you to keep this thread on the topic of Old Style Moneysaving or it will need to be moved to the Arms.

    Many thanks,

    Pink

Yes see what you mean Lambanana. It's a hard enough time for you all without upsetting your family.

Hope your feeling better soon Narabanekeater.

Have managed to throw a few things away/put in charity bag etc., need to make some room for all the stock I am building up which is all over the bedroom atm. I have tins and packets of groceries ready for a siege I think. Thing is, it gets addictive and I get upset when anything gets used. How sad is that!
Hubby can't understand why I keep buying more when we already have it upstairs. Likewise, collecting berries when I have them in the freezer.

Lambanana is there a freecycle cafe group in your area, maybe you could buy the shirt but borrow a tie?

  • I have a confession to make. I have not been into a supermarket for the last 10 days. I have been to Tesco express and got milk and a few RTC bits but I have not been shopping. I have turned a corner. I am no longer hording food. There we go I said it!
The money I have saved will go quite nicely for our weekend away this weekend

Its a lovely feeling taking a big bag into a charity shop isnt it. I had a good clear out at the weekend and took some along to the charity shop on Monday.

I've been stockpiling and seem to be running out of room. Do you think I could take down some photos and display packs of flour and toilet rolls?:)
