Oh right - I was thinking madly of a double deck motorway LOL!
  • Hi everyone. Still struggling to keep up on here!

Good luck with your interview Lambanana and Taplady's boys and anyone else I've missed.

Czarina, I hope things a bit better now. I do patchwork/quilting too - I do sell things (locally) but hard to charge properly for your time as well as materials although have told myself I am not buying any more until have used up what I have got - probably enough to see me out! And I also have an ostrich OH where finances are concerned! Glad you have managed to juggle things to sort dentist though. Our unexpected expense last night was that DS accidentally broke the beautiful chanter his teacher lent him - actually feel as sick about having to confess as about having to buy a replacement - that's if we can - I think it's quite old and I don't know if they even make them like that anymore. DS was distraught last night and I didn't sleep that well either. Just wish we could rewind 30seconds!

Crickett, your table centre sounds lovely. I have got several UFOs too that I must finish one of these days.

I love finding unexpected harvests in the garden too katholicos although not loving so much finding that the birds are getting into the polytunnel despite my best efforts and pecking holes in all the nearly ripe toms!

Hope gailey is alright - maybe she has gone down with whatever the children had.

Right, five good thing: have not had to buy veg for ages as so much in the garden; was given a big lythe the other day - got four big fillets out of it plus bones etc to make stock; yesterday someone else gave me a tub of smoked mackerel pate that they made with mackerel they'd caught and smoked themselves; this morning some crab claws; fifth thing is that I was able to give them all some veg - my small freezer is gronaing at the seams anyway.

Hope you all have a good day.

All the best to all interviewee's this week!

Had a nice but tiring day. Took Mum to town as she'd some errands to do, she bought me lunch and a 1.5kg bag of sugar for my jam making, paid the parking costs and gave me some money for diesel. Bless her!

Came home after dropping mum off and we had home made oatcakes with melted cheese for tea, then watered the garden and discovered that despite the chilly weather of late and the sharp descent into the autumnal season (despite not having a summer worth mentioning) there are things thriving and growing well in the garden and to my surprise, the cobnut squash i planted now have little cobnuts growing on them. I thought the were done for and had failed through my ineptitude, to grow, so that was a nice surprise too.

I love finding pleasure in the simple commonplace things of life.

You know, your post totally cheered me this morning. I love days like that, too. ;)

I am still waiting for the insulation people, just after 11am, if they do not arrive in the next 30minutes they are going to get a blast from me, I am just in the right mood, having put the washer on and the sky has clouded over, looks like rain ...ggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

  • Well, sun shining here so I have managed to put out one load of clothes onto the washing line. I have started to sort through my living room as I need to get it tidy for my in-laws who are coming to look after my little one on Friday. Teachers go back on friday for an inset day but children go back on the following monday. As a result my childminder is away until the weekend which left me without any childcare. Luckily in-laws were free so will come down and look after the little monkey.

I'm feeling a little apprehensive as little one is off to nursery on the 14th september for 5 mornings a week. I don't work two days a week so that I can be at home with her. Now I'm loathe to send her to nursery on the days I'm at home as selfishly I still want her to myself. Once she's at school she's no longer exclusively mine IYSWIM. Children start school far too early and she'll be in education for such a long time I just personally want to delay it as long as I can. I know this is ironic considering I am a teacher but I think I have too much insider knowledge! :o

Thanks Jackieglasgow and Purpleheather for your advise on how much washing powder to use. I shall go and find a container that measures 40 - 50 mls full!

Katholicas - it's lovely to find some forgotten veg in the garden, we had potatoes growing last year where I had tipped the bucket that I'd grown previous years out. Must have missed some little ones and more grew.

Hope everyone who's got interviews etc., does well.

Gailey - if you're keeping up with the thread, hope you are okay and back on soon. Miss you.

Trying to decide whether to go shopping or manage with what I have got. Would mean breaking into the store I have been trying to build up for a couple of things, but might save some money if can leave it a couple of days.

Really should do some cleaning. Nice day again so washing in.

Hope those with little ones off to school tomorrow have a really good last day.

  • Good luck to everyone who has interviews.

My OH has a poisoned finger ( due to nail biting!!!) and I am making a poultice to draw it out. I needed old-style green fairy soap to make the poultice so phoned DM who did have some in her cupboard and is giving me a bar. she then phoned me back to check if I still wanted it as the offer date on the packet was 1972!!!
I'm sure soap doesn't go off but won't tell OH how old it is before I use it ;)

Jediteacher - I know how you feel albeit from a dim and distant memory. They don't stay little for long.

Could you not let your little one go part time for a bit? Having said that, after a couple of weeks you will probably love the free mornings you have to yourself.
