Hope interviews are going/have gone well for folks!

Am a bit sad today - I had to have Deirdre Hen put to sleep. So now Mavis Hen is on her own. I phoned an advertiser on birdtrader to try and get a couple of bantams to keep her company, and the woman was horribly rude to me when I said I couldn't have a cockerel and put the phone down on me! I am feeling a bit delicate, and worried about my poor one remaining hen. The next ex-batt rehoming here isn't until October and I don't think I can leave Mavis that long without a partner. I shall waddle over to the chicken thread and post there and see if anyone has any suggestions.

Hiya smileyt, sorry about your girl going to the big henhouse in the sky. One of mine was limping the other day and I was worried but they had been playing in the shed and I think she strained herself. Seems fine now - thank goodness.

The lady (using the term loosely) on the phone would be desperate to get rid of her cockerels, the country is littered with unwanted boys, but sadly they are difficult for urban situations as we all know. Hope you find her a buddy.

Thanks Ginny. It was a shock to my system as she was as nice as pie when I rang and then she turned nasty in the blink of an eye. As I wouldn't dream of being so rude I wasn't at all prepared, plus my defences are down anyway due to losing Deirdre. I know the poultry industry is cruel as the boys are nearly always unwanted :( I don't really want to buy into it (hence the rescue hens - once all hens are treated kindly I won't have any more) but looks like I might have to for Mavis' sake.

Glad your girl's leg is ok. Sometimes I think they just like to keep us on our toes.

Have seen a fox prowling around the park nearby recently late at night. Luckily the dogs would act as an early warning system here.

Right, off for another comforting cup of tea.

  • I wish we could get some hens but I imagine the landlord would go spare, plus there are loads of foxes round us. DH spotted a poor dead cat in the park on our way to work this morning, he made sure I didn't see but he said it had definitely been killed by something, not just natural causes. Poor little thing.

I had my interview this morning. I did my best and answered all of their questions but I'm not feeling very positive. It may just be the post-interview slump but I'm not feeling very confident, I don't know that I went into enough detail or gave good examples (it was a competency based interview) and they just kept smiling and nodding as they always do at interview and didn't push me or ask for more detail. I should know by Friday either way but I'm so fed up with my current job. I know I'm really lucky to have a job at all at the moment and I shouldn't complain but I'm really unhappy there. Oh well, will have to wait and see.

I hope everyone had a lovely bank holiday and enjoys the rest of the week.

Hurrah the insulation people turned up, after phoning twice because 'they were lost' so we now have a second layer of insulation in the roof this time laid across the joists not in between.

I went to quilting. when I got back I had a quick trip up the ladder and put everything back in the loft and shut the hatch, had a quick run rounf with the dyson to pick the mess up, tomorrow I will clean the guest bedroom, the cills have dust on from the tractors going past on the road.

OH has just retired to bed with a dizzy, its quite a few days since he had the last one, its spag bol for supper, so I can cook the spaghetti when he gets up and the sauce will heat up whilst the spag is cooking, might be a bit late having supper though.

I put a load of washing in this morning, it started to rain, so its still in the washer although its been fine this afternoon, it too can wait till tomorrow.

I'm sure they will tell you on the chicken thread that if you introduce new hens you will have to keep an eye on them. They peck Mavis hen. (and I mean really, really bad) Sorry!

Can you just stop and think what we would do with 3K ????? I have a space about to appear in my kitchen as Dd is having the tumble dryer, for emergencies, and Im looking for a little shelf unit - off to the cs after my little holiday - If I had 3K wow I could redo the entire house and stock up for years. Ah well will make do as usual and be happier for it :)
