My Ds can now ride his bike!!:j:j:j:j

I wish there was a cartwheel smiley. It may not seem alot but he is 12 and has never got the hang of a two wheeled bike. We have tried everything but as his has some learning difficulties etc it has not happened. Last week my dad took him to a specialist place to learn and they spent an hour with him and gave him some practice stuff to do at home. Last night he was out on the drive practising when he suddenly managed it. I cried buckets. His face and the achievement was something amazing. My dad had not long gone home but came straight back to see for himself its been so long coming we are thrilled.
Weather awful today so cant get him out on bike again but as soon as it clears we will be off with the bike somewhere. :)
  • I just thought I would de-lurk and say hello. I have been lurking for some time and get many ideas from this thread.
Me and OH are both working and jobs are reasonably secure but not well paid but we are just glad to be in work at the moment when so many aren't.
We have two teenage DD's so appreciate the problems many of you have had / are having and my heart goes out to you as no-one knows how to hurt you like your own children.
I also run a Guide unit so actually choose to spend time with other peoples teenage girls !!!
We are finding that out food bill is increasing and I am going to have to search around this site for cheaper meal ideas as we just can't afford to keep going this way.
My youngest DD is 14 tomorrow so I am off to organise a birthday sleepover for 7 teenage girls as OS as possible - home made cake with home made jam filling, tent in the garden, home made chilli to fill the tacos etc. I have been baking for a couple of nights and there are lots of cakes and seasoned drumsticks as well. It is to be an evening of games and dvd's and then a picnic lunch at the beach tomorrow, quite a reasonably priced birthday really.

I may only post occasionally but I read most lunchtimes at work and find it a great way to keep me motivated. It's nice to know there are so many like minded people out there. :)

Just had a downpour in Nottingham...the likes of which I have not seen for a while. Rather chuffed I don't have any meetings in any of the other buildings on the campus this afternoon. *note to self* must remember to harvest courgette in the garden, because otherwise it is going to be the size of a small house with all this rain going on.

Feeling particularly fed up today. The weather is bad, work colleagues are grumpy, and I want to be at home doing fun stuff rather than work, then swimming, then home to collapse. Except I really need to attack the ironing, clear the laundry hamper, clean the kitchen, hoover through the house, clean the cats bowls and mats, make dinner, clear away from dinner etc etc. Sigh. Life seems to be one long to do list at the moment, with no room for my projects or for anything enjoyable.

*off to the corner to sulk*

On other topics though... how did you guys get into foraging? I can't tell between a damson tree and a cherry tree...and I would love to try and find some places to forage near to my house. Any hints or tips?

Ha ha! I live in Notts too, was thinking I'd have to move everything to higher ground...discovered not all areas of the house are waterproof!! :( I've seen some blackberry bushes around and about...would love to find some sloes to make Sloe Gin for Crimbo!

That is wonderful kidcat it is a special moment.
My last two were at the other end of the spectrum and learned to ride two wheeler at three years old. I was hopping mad when I found out the older of those two could do it because I had just spent over £50 on a little tikes three wheeler motorbike. I could have bought a two wheeler cycle instead. We still have it though and the grandchildren get use out of it.
  • Up here in the Northwest the weather is so autumnal or should I change that to April showers?:D
On a plus side the courgettes are still producing well along with the runner and french beans. I want some sun though to ripen my tomatoes in my basket.
Had the afternoon off yesterday so OH and I went for a walk with a couple of small plastic boxes and came back with 9lb of blackberries, how good does that feel !

So thats why I cant find any decent ones about :rotfl::rotfl:
We have a weather warning in the NW for flooding, just seen it on the MET office site, its on until 1pm tomorrow from 1pm today :(

Its been the opposite to what they said, its actually been sunny, the most we have had all August:eek:

My heart goes out to all of you with troublesome teenagers, ive got all of this to come with my boys (4 and 2)

" Even mum said to me yesterday that she wanted to tell my son off for how rude he was to me on her birthday, but bless her, she was worried he might kick up a fuss and make my life difficult if she did so."

There's a quote from King Lear - "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child" That says it all.

A 15 year old will know the hurt he causes but won't care. Hopefully he'll change but if he doesn't K, don't attach blame to yourself.

Kidcat, congrats on your ds's success, I know how amazing it is when they acheive a milestone.

Its piddling down complete with thunder and lightening in Manchester. Even the chickens are fed up. its cold too! Escaped to Mr T on my own, like a big girl, had an hours wandering before they came and took me home :) rang my Mum to see if she wanted anything and she asked if I had dug a tunnel or used a rope ladder to escape. Finished 3 jars of marmalade made with peel and an odd orange - cost about 75p as the orange was reduced.

Big big news DD has been offered a house in the next street :T:T:T:T its a bit rough but its a start and no deposit. I am going with her Monday to have a look and hopefully we will have peace and quiet very soon. And she won't be far away :j:j:j
