So while we chilled the boys played, so all was good.

Its been and still is so cold, its really not fair, so going to have a cuppa and snuggle under the quilt with the boys.0 -

I wish there was a cartwheel smiley. It may not seem alot but he is 12 and has never got the hang of a two wheeled bike. We have tried everything but as his has some learning difficulties etc it has not happened. Last week my dad took him to a specialist place to learn and they spent an hour with him and gave him some practice stuff to do at home. Last night he was out on the drive practising when he suddenly managed it. I cried buckets. His face and the achievement was something amazing. My dad had not long gone home but came straight back to see for himself its been so long coming we are thrilled.
Weather awful today so cant get him out on bike again but as soon as it clears we will be off with the bike somewhere.
Thats brilliant!!My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

That's fabulous :T Nothing more sure to bring a lump to your throat than when your child achieves somethingmustbemad68 wrote: »I just thought I would de-lurk and say hello. I have been lurking for some time and get many ideas from this thread.
Me and OH are both working and jobs are reasonably secure but not well paid but we are just glad to be in work at the moment when so many aren't.
We have two teenage DD's so appreciate the problems many of you have had / are having and my heart goes out to you as no-one knows how to hurt you like your own children.
I also run a Guide unit so actually choose to spend time with other peoples teenage girls !!!
We are finding that out food bill is increasing and I am going to have to search around this site for cheaper meal ideas as we just can't afford to keep going this way.
My youngest DD is 14 tomorrow so I am off to organise a birthday sleepover for 7 teenage girls as OS as possible - home made cake with home made jam filling, tent in the garden, home made chilli to fill the tacos etc. I have been baking for a couple of nights and there are lots of cakes and seasoned drumsticks as well. It is to be an evening of games and dvd's and then a picnic lunch at the beach tomorrow, quite a reasonably priced birthday really.
I may only post occasionally but I read most lunchtimes at work and find it a great way to keep me motivated. It's nice to know there are so many like minded people out there.
That sounds like a lovely party mustbemad, I'm sure your daughter and her friends will have a great time.
It's nice to see some lurkers de-lurking :j .......we don't bite you know....well....not often
Great news about your daugthers house ginny. Be lovely to have her so close to you.
My youngest daugther lives with her Dad, and they're coming down for the day tomorrow. My ex-husband to spend the day with my eldest daughter (who does live with me) and me to have a good 8 hours with my youngest daugther (who is coming up for 18 next month). They can't stay overnight, as my daughter has work on Saturday, but I haven't seen her since Christmas last year because I have no car and no funds since losing my job. I am soooooo looking forward to seeing her :j :j :jAug11 £193.29/£240

House cleaning took us two and a half hours between us - didn't go until after tea in the end - with an interruption to evict (again) one fat horse from the hayfield where OH and DS were baling. Turn your back for a minute and he is in through the gate. The cleaning is really DD2's job but there was such a lot to do this time that I said I would help her - she is also going to do their laundry for me (posted about this on the "Up your income" board) and use the money for a longedfor "proper" salon haircut instead of me just chopping her fringe when she can't see out of it anymore! Or OH pretending to threaten her with the sheep shears!
Mama67 - I have also been picking tons of beans (CFBs and Runners). I don't even bother to blanch them these days, just freeze meal size bundles of whole beans in plastic bags and then when I want them, snap them straight into the pan from frozen. They seem to keep OK this way for about a year, at least until the new beans start. I also freeze gluts of cherry tomatoes in ice cream boxes etc and then add handfuls (frozen) to roasted vegetables near the end of cooking time - that way they stay whole-ish instead of vanishing to mush.
Kidcat - a great achievement for DS. Hope he is proud of himself and his new skill.
Ginnyknit - good news about DD's house. Hope it suits and it will be nice to have her just round the corner.
Mustbemad68 - sounds as if it will be a great party - I didn't know about the meteor showers but I did see a shooting star last night so maybe that was part of the same thing?
365days - thankyou for that link although my ancient laptop is a bit slow so haven't fully explored it. My parenting "bible" is called "How to Talk to Kids so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk". Have lent my copy out though so can't remember who it's by - sorry. And I should also have said in DS's defence that when he's not in a strop, he can be helpful and a pleasure to be with and they are both hard workers once they actualy get up in the mornings! DS has been working with his dad and DD2 has a summer job in the kitchen at the local hotel so they are growing up.
How did everyone's decluttering go? I have been on a mission for a while now -partly because I want to paint floors and things - but I have also got an OH who is always bringing back finds from the skip - most of which end up going back there eventually! Plus I am an avid beachcomber so that doen't help either - good source of net, fishboxes and baskets for the garden though. And that rigid plastic packaging tape makes serviceable seed/plant labels for a lot less work than cutting up plastic milk bottles!
OK, I am off to bed as have been on the go all day. See you all tomorrow - oops, it's tomorrow already!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -

Hi
I'm not in regular touch with Kittie.
She is, however, happily settled in a new eco-home in a pretty idyllic country location from what she says - living the dream basically:D0 -
Ginny, that's great news about your daughter. It will be nice too that she's just around the corner. When my kids were small, I lived next door-but-one to my mum so she was close by if I needed anything.0

my god we are so alike, i was / am the same with my steel toe-capped boots. OH thought yay no more big hard boots, i'm a size 3 - 31/2 so rarely find them in my size. Till i look on ebay and guess what i found my red boots yay all for a whopping £25 inc p + p. I was genuinely jumping with excitement, OH is still in a grump about it.
morning all, well i think i'm credit with the electric, its on a set direct debit so fingers crossed. strike that just phoned EDF and i'm £89.37 in credit.yay they offered a refund or just to leav ein credit. So i said just leave it on and it will help towards the winter bill:D.
The AA have just picked OH to take the car to the garage after it broke down again arghhhhh. Looks like the cam belt has gone so at least another bill of £200 minimum to fork out. So not impressed.
If anyone sees the sun can you tell it pop over here i'm sick of the grey.0
