So sorry not posted for a while, bit of a 'pet' crisis. which is now thankfully improving.

In my opinion, most teenagers go through a period in which they are mostly totally unrecognizable as being a member of your family. I suppose loads of us have been there and wondered what the outcome would be. Thankfully most sort themselves after a few years and as Mardatha said, end up being your best friend. Although I must admit there are times when you wonder if that could possibly happen. Thankfully, we too, are very close to our two sons and my eldest son now has all this to look forward to with his own son. I suppose he will be coming to us for advice:D

Not going to say much on the state of this country at the moment because it's fairly obvious. No doubt I suppose we are heading for some sort of double dip recession:( Stock up O/S I think the food prices are set to get even higher.

Hi seasalt, you live in a lovely place by the sounds of it, the sort of place I dream about.

Now I'd better try and get my washing on the line, although there's not much chance of it drying today with all the showers.

    Have a lovely day everyone!

Sounds like everyone is having a declutter today,is it to keep warm, cos its chilly here today?

darn right it is, 15oc here, grey and raining so not impressed.I was supposed to take the boys to beach today, no chance of that now.

me and my OH are both terrible, but we have both decided it needs to be done.Yesterday we went to the tip, he found a broken plastic box that i had thrown out of coddy's (DS1) room, he said that'll be good for us. Er no if we want some we'll get an unbroken one., I then threatened to whack him with my crutch if he didn't dump it. He soon got shot of it.

My middle room is a cross between an office and play room. One corner we have filing cabinet and the pc, the other side has books, toys, arts/crafts, garage trains cars. My sewing machine on a table and a big rug for us all to sit on. My front room i try to keep toy free, but its not happening. Tons of toys upstairs, but i like to keep them separate as they too many little bits with them, which always get lost. I don't mind toys its the other rubbish i need rid of.

kath wow you found some bargains there.
hi seasalt! welcome to the thread!
Coddy (DS1) is 10 yrs old and i'm through tantrums, stubborn behaviour with him now. Dread to think what he'll be like when he's older. But i can the good person he can be, but unfortunately he's got both of me and his dads unorganised genes so no surprise of why it took him two weeks to unpack his case and a week to do his room.

Today more decluttering and a trips again. Really don't want to go out but i have to, need some urgent bits.

Regarding teenage horrors - I remember reading somewhere that there is a basic instinct involved in horrid behaviour that goes along the lines of - unless home becomes a place they don't want to be, it's harder for them to leave it when they grow into adults (which as a species humans need to do to procreate, evolve etc.) So they therefore (unconsciously) make home a place less comfortable for themselves! Doesn't help when you're on the receiving end but does a bit if you think what is actually going on is more to do with them and not you!

Sea salt, lovely to have you aboard, no pun intended.

broomstick, excellent strategy am going to tell Dd about it.

My 2 kids werent too bad although Dd did have a major crisis around 14, too young to do what she wanted etc. Im just so glad they didnt get involved in the local hobby - Drugs- not a day goes by that I thank god for that.

Ubamother that sounds so like what we see on animal programmes when the juvenile is pushed away from the family to start a new pride/group etc. Just shows basic instincts are still there. Pity my Dd didnt have that instinct, she still lives here at 26 :rotfl:

Hello again, all! Thanks for the lovely welcome :)

Wow - my heart goes out to some of you at the moment - huge ((hugs)) for those having an especially tough time :( I was a foul teenager between about 15-18/19 - I did improve - honest!! :D

Grey day here - 2 loads of washing to get dry, so am hoping that the greyness comes to nothing... We were meant to be going out on a picnic but the baby had an awful night (and so did I!) that we all got up late. DD didn't want to go, anyway, so that and the bad night and the weather means we're staying in - may let kids have carpet picnic and DVD instead and tehe a family session on the wii :D. May get some cleaning/ tidying done ready for DH coming home tomorrow night, too (hopefully, anyway!). Spent until gone midnight sorting out his business paperwork - still masses to do :( Shouldn't complain, really - it pays the bills!! ;)

Off to hang out more washing - and maybe pick yet more beans (argh! runners have cropped excessively well this year!!)

  • My beans are cropping well too, in fact hubby's taken to saying 'What are we having with our beans for tea tonight' but at least he's eating them, he was a very reluctant veg eater til we started growing our own.

Snap! Except we have 3 sheds that OH hides things in!:mad:
pops in to say "and me"

isn't it frustrating - I also throw things out only to find they reappear as oh has checked through the bags!!
  • Just had a downpour in Nottingham...the likes of which I have not seen for a while. Rather chuffed I don't have any meetings in any of the other buildings on the campus this afternoon. *note to self* must remember to harvest courgette in the garden, because otherwise it is going to be the size of a small house with all this rain going on.

Feeling particularly fed up today. The weather is bad, work colleagues are grumpy, and I want to be at home doing fun stuff rather than work, then swimming, then home to collapse. Except I really need to attack the ironing, clear the laundry hamper, clean the kitchen, hoover through the house, clean the cats bowls and mats, make dinner, clear away from dinner etc etc. Sigh. Life seems to be one long to do list at the moment, with no room for my projects or for anything enjoyable.

*off to the corner to sulk*

On other topics though... how did you guys get into foraging? I can't tell between a damson tree and a cherry tree...and I would love to try and find some places to forage near to my house. Any hints or tips?

My french green beans from the digin seeds are cropping really well as well.

I am picking easily 8oz every 2 days and that is from only 10 plants. I keep blanching and freezing them unless we want them for dinner as these are about the only veg I usually buy frozen, with an odd bag of sweetcorn.

I'm bagging them in meal sized portions so easier to use when we want them.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
