    Me again!

Last run was 6.5miles according to google maps so I extended todays to 7miles. Very ploddy and stodgy run but I did it! Now that is the longest I have run and I could definately feel it on the way back. I ran like I did last year when I could barely pick my feet up. I'm pretty sure the strength will kick in at some point, it'd better do anyway!

Think I need a day off tomorrow with how I feel now - tired!

Have you heard of www.walkjogrun.net ? or www.mapmyrun.com ? You can not only measure your distance but also keep a record of your runs.

  • Newcomer to this thread but been running a while.

Started running around april last year as a means to an end. Was already cycling and swimming and needed to run for the triathlon I put my name down for.

Then september last year I completed an olympic distance triathlon in 2hr47mins1sec. Which I was well chuffed with doing the 10k run part in 57 mins.

I also stupidly agreed to do the Norwich half marathon with some mates around my birthday time which was great as it served as extra motivation but they all dropped out and left me to do it on my own completing in 1hr52mins58 secs.

Now this year I have gone all out and entered the Outlaw Triathlon which is an Ironman distance race so My running needs to step up another gear as I have to be able to complete an marathon(note I didn't say run!!) after swimming 2.4 miles and cycling 112 miles!

The only trouble is I seem to have developed shin splints in my left leg which has left me a bit down as it's my first exercise related injury and I feel a bit useless!

    Hi Chunkytfg! Welcome!

Excellent stuff! If you're not already, you should join triathlete's world forum. Good thread there for Outlaw.

  • Just seen this thread in Martin's weekly email and thought I'd try give it a go.

I've just quit the gym as I don't use it but I intend to get fitter by getting my trainers and get out running! I've done a few 10k runs but I'm always just over the wrong side of 1 hour. It's my goal by for my next 10k run which should be the Manchester 10k in May I can get under 1 hour.

Hope this place gives me the motivation to succeed.

Welcome Macca! Nice to see some new faces on here. Good luck with your 10k planned too.

Thanks wend for those sites, I'll have a look at those

And welcome chunky - you sound like you're doing great with all of that apart from those nasty shin splints

No run for me today as having a day off and planning to go out for a short one tomoz in a supposedly sprinty one - as if!

Managed to not talk myself out of a run tonight after a very long day at work and feeling tired and went for a 40min slow run. Building back up for a longer run tomorrow

A great run tonight of 7.5miles it went really well and I was so pleased when I got back, I couldn't believe how much energy I had left and boy, does that make a change!

Day off tomorrow and hoping to go for a 45min run on Sunday to tick over

  • Ok going to attempt a run in the morning but I've not run for a few months so I'm pretty rusty. Are there any plans abouts that I could use?
  • Hi Chunky- I think the Outlaw is near me- National Watersports Centre in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. I am literally down the road and would love to do it... but I can't swim too well and haven't got a bike!!

I would love to rejoin this thread- just building up to running again after knee problems. I managed to get out for 12.5 miles walking and running with quite a fair bit of gentle running.
  • Went for my first run for a while this morning, dodging all the frost on the paths I did a mile and a quarter run/walk. Not feeling much better for it. Hope that improves soon :(
