  • I would like to second the comments about the importance of Old Stylers having a classic look rather than a faddish look. What I notice about a lot of women (and I spend a lot of time looking....) is that they seem to buy/wear clothes simply because they are the latest fashion and not because they suit their body shape or colouring. If you go for a classic look that suits you, you will always look stylish but it won't cost you much.

I think The Tightwad Gazette goes into more detail on this - I can't say much more as I don't know a lot about women's clothing, but it certainly applies to men as well - I get most of my stuff from charity shops but nobody seems to notice - in fact once I was wearing my 1940s Oxfam suit at work and my boss started going on about how good it looked on me...instant feel good factor for £20...but it's also lasted me for a good few years of wear.

  • Thanks Austin..

I've been reading Trinny and Susannah today ,dreadful I know, to learn how to be more stylish. Again I think most of my problem is that i just don't think about myself at all, If I thought about it and spent time scouring charity shops I know I could start to look better and this is something I enjoy doing. Instead I spend my weekends TIMING MYSELF cleaning the kitchen counters and hitting those hotspots!! :rotfl:

I need to get a life!
  • BTW, for you male Old Stylers, My OH loves a DIY Man-Facial, he basically lays his head on my kness and I pamper him! Hot steaming flannels, exfoliate, cleanse, tone and moisturise.

I wouldn't tell anyone but you lot :o ...but he loves it!

    sounds splendidly relaxing.........
:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood
  • T&S are quite good, but I'll bet there are loads of free websites that offer good advice too. I think womens' magazines tend to push the fads 'n' fashions (to encourage advertisers) rather than giving classic clothing advice, so they're probably best avoided. Certainly if I followed the advice of magazines like GQ etc I'd end up looking a right wally. My personal favourite is to just get a library book on 40s Hollywood stars and learn from them!

I suppose both my partner and I will have to do that to each other!:D

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

Oh Ellas Im so pleased you feel better today.

    I wish I did LOL.

I went out for an appointment this morning with the intention of popping into primark to buy a skirt or somthing as I really have no clothes, but I managed to talk myself out of it saying "you cant afford it, wait till you can"

I wouldnt mind but I havent smoked since Sunday so I so blatantly have almost £30 "spare" money which I would have wasted on fags in any case. I could have bought something bloody nice with that ( when was the ast time I spent 30 on me- cant remember). Seems Ive got so far out of the habit of spending money on myself, I cant bring myself to do it. What a sad little martyr, no need for it!!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

IM trying im trying, I like the idea from other recovering addiciotns " I havent smoked yet today" babysteps and all! I tell myself even a few days off smoking is making me look better ( i m convincing myself it is) and I smell better. So pat on back for me! :T

But damn MSE, i do find it nigh on impossible to spend money now and think to myself "what would martin do?" Maybe Ill browse ebay for 5 mins.... ;)
