What would I need to take, if I have to buy something I wont be able to go - anyone know what Id need???
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I have also found those "gym bunnies" are usually that wrapped up in themselves and how they look... nobody else gets any attention from them. So let your wobbly butt wibble free on the treadmill.

:rotfl: That made me laugh, cheers.

At my poorest, when going month after month of monotony and penny pinching got me to rock bottom in my sense of self esteem ( seeing all the monied lot ) I went and bought a Chanel lipstick. total self indulgence and not a sensible purchase. It lasted me for nearly a year, so actually it wasn't such a bad deal. I hardly ever wear make up, but when I felt poor and low, I'd go and put it on. And some very posh nail varnish I got in a sale at Debenhams. It never failed to make me feel a whole lot better about myself..

...don't shoot me for it!!!

Yep, I know it's not very OS but I too sometimes want to buy into the glam beauty hype. Here's a couple of treats for not many pennies that I found whilst browsing these boards. These offers have been around for a bit though so you'll probably need to act quickly:

free sample size Chanel mascara: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=247305&highlight=Chanel

This link worked best for me: http://um.chanel.com/lb/inimitable06...anelcom&goto=0

And if you're having trouble accessing the stockists, they're copied into this thread:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=249395&highlight=Chanel

You'll probably have to sit through a few minutes of advertising gubbins but for your troubles you'll get a voucher that you fill in (they only want your name) and take to your nearest stockist (the first thread also has posts of places that have run out already).

posh haircut for not v many quids, courtesy of Herbal Essences:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=179840&highlight=Herbal+Essences

You have to buy a bottle marked 'FREE HAIRCUT' (there's still a few, although limited stock now, dotted around in the supermarkets) and keep the receipt as you'll need to send it off. There's some Herbal Essences stuff on BOGOF in Tesco at the mo (but not all of it, so keep an eye out). Apparently it's about £30-worth of hair grooming in a posh salon.

I know all this has been posted lots of times already and I send much cudos out to the OPs. Hope this post is of some use to those who haven't spotted these offers before. It's low-budget stuff that makes you feel like you're high-maintenance! ;)

We had a rather humiliating experience in the supermarket today.

We ran into our friends and let them know about some heavily reduced fruit and veg that was good quality. Of course we stocked up, as I have recipes and tips from OS.

We thought we were doing them a favour trying to help them save money. I feel very good when I find reduced food that I like.

He was snotty and said 'I used to work in retailing and a bargain is only a bargain if you were going to buy it at full price'. .

Absolute rubbish! A bargain is also somewhere where you can feed the family better than you would have at hald price! If I was going to make bolognese out of mince and a leg of lamb turned up heavily reduced I'd buy the lamb as more flexible and better quality meat generally. Take no notice of this patronising:eek: and ill informed:eek: attitude.

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

I always try to wear a bit of blusher, lipstick and mascara. It takes less than one minute but helps me feel a lot more confident. I also try to glam up a bit by wearing my hoop earrings and trendy wooden beads etc. I find that the above makes reasonably plain outfit look that bit more nice.

• Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this has been mentioned already. Is there a college doing beauty courses near you? You can get all sorts of things done very reasonably. I can't believe I didn't think of this before as DD2 is just starting her 2nd year on such a course.

For everyone who thinks they do not have an "eye" for what looks good on them - got to the library and get some of Trinny and Susannah's books.

Then work out what they suggest for your shape etc. I did this a year ago and got clothes from primark for very little - daughters now think i look smart even though the weight has piled back on - lol!

If you have tough hard skin on feet etc mix a paste of lemon juice and sugar and apply to feet - stick feet in plastic bag and wait for at least a couple of hours or overnight - then rinse off - all the dry skin will come off and your feet will be like a baby's b*m!

That would cost a fortune if you bought the special foot creams!

If nothing else the spectacle of your feet squelching about in plastic bags should give you a giggle.;)
"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.
• Thanks for the tip regarding the feet elona..........mine are dreadful at the moment, so I shall try this later:rotfl:

Should give the OH a laugh if nothing else :D

I do sympathize with you. I know the feeling. I avoid glamorous magazines for that reason - why look at fripperies I can't have? Unfortunately, you're forced to look at your coworkers.

Do try to remember that many of them are probably in debt up to their eyeballs and may be unable to sleep at night (or soon will be, when it catches up to them.)

There *are* ways to feel good about how you look. One option: go for boho glamour over WAG glamour. In other words, REVEL in your thrift-store fashion. Rather than trying to emulate what everyone else is wearing, create your own look. Pick a favorite color that flatters you and keep your eye out for pieces that are in that color. Maybe you look fantastic in a particular shade of green... in that case, keep your eye out for that shade of green at the charity shops. In time, you'll eventually find a classic wool coat or rich-looking alligator bag in your color. Pair it with black basics (like a turtleneck and slacks) and one or two choice signature pieces of jewelry or silk scarves... again, if you keep your eyes open, you'll find them. It can become a bit of a game and you'll be amazed at how quickly your wardrobe will grow. You'll look like YOU and won't be a slave to fashion.

I think going to Boots for a makeup application is a great idea. You can be dressed in head-to-toe George and look like a million bucks so long as you stick to simple basics and are well-groomed. I'm good with makeup, but bad with hair. So, I keep my hair up all the time and do my makeup well. I could certainly do better with my grooming. If I worked in an office job, I'd probably have to go for manicures (as it is, I just keep 'em short and clean and colorless so as to attract as little attention as possible to my snaggly little paws.) If you're not in debt and can afford ANYTHING at all for your personal budget, then think about where to spend the money as an INVESTMENT in your appearance. It's far better to have a good haircut, tidy manicure, and a few good pieces of classic clothes that really flatter you than it is to spend lots of money on junky cheap stuff from Asda that wears out fast. And, plenty of people spend tons of money at posh shops trying to keep up with fleeting fashions... they end up with closets bulging full of clothes that are out of style and probably never looked all that good on them to begin with. Not to mention massive credit card balances, etc.
