I'm fed up.......
I'm 25 have 2 kids and work full time. I'm Old style as much as possible, meal plan, slow cook and clean my house with vinegar & MF cloths (the flylady way of course).
Now don't get me wrong I love being this way, I really do, but just sometimes, like this week, I feel like such a .......a frump?
I work in an office with super glam girls, yesterday arriving back from lunch I bumped into a couple, there I was loaded with shopping bags from morrisons filled to the brims with bettabuy produce for this weeks plan, sporting my £5.99 'new' charity shop coat, flat shoes, split ends and my big fat bum trailing behind me and there they were, freshly St Tropezed, heels and suits that were just...so
Then in the evening onto the snooty gym my OH insists we attend (ahh I hear you say you must be thin then?? alas no, the homecooked pies and fruit crumbles see to it so that I'm not) where stunning ladies look at me in pity with their super fluffy towels (why are my towels flat and crunchy??) and flat tums.
No, I'm not hormonal at the moment before you ask and I'm usually very proud of myself and very happy (and in reality I know I'm lucky for having my family and health!). Its just that sometimes I want to nip into Harvey Nichols and leave with so many bags, staff have to help me carry them to the car and I imagine that I'm in a bit of a rush cos I don't want to be late for my 3 o'clock facial and hair and nails.
sooooo I just wondered what OS pick me ups you can recommend for when someone is feeling just a little downtrodden??
I've been wondering about going into boots and getting one of the makeup ladies to put my make up on for me! Its probably about time that I learnt to do it properly and also I did get £10 from pigsback which I'm saving for Xmas for DD, shall I splash out and blow the whole £10 on myself???

YES USE IT ON YOURSELF! You deserve it, YOU have been making ends meet in the old style way, treat your self! DO NOT spend boots voucher if you will feel guilty!! Go to one of the fancy pants counter, mid morning and ask for some tips on applying the "Brand" of the counter you are at!
OR:
Book an hour to yourself in the bathroom, full soak, pay particular attention to your tootsies, full pamper on the feet allways makes me feel like i'VE HAD A TREAT, Bright red nail varnish on said little piggies, best pants on, and have some "Free FUN";)Sig ah Sig Ahhh0 -
I sympathise, I work from home so I don't rub shoulders with 'glam' people but I can imagine how galling it is for you.
It might help if you consider that these people are probably living on credit and one day they'll look back and realise that the money spent on the st tropez tans etc wasn't the wisest thing to do and they will have deep regrets.
You are doing the 'right' thing, you've said much the same in your post so I'd just go and have a soak in the bath with the free sample products that you've squirreled away (you did, didn't you?), leave your Pigsback voucher where it is because you'll regret dipping into it and enjoy your home cooked meal....maybe not in that order but you get the idea.
If you're still feeling glum at the weekend treat yourself to a trip to a car boot sale and pick up someone elses 'regret' purchase for next to nothing, there is bound to be a kitchen item or a cushion, a piece of clothing or costume jewellery that will be perfect to make you feel as if you have something new.0 -
You have two lovely kids and are very happy, what do they have except stuff and a tan that wears off in a few days?0

Aww, bless. *Sends pick-me-up vibes* You could always make an OS facemask out of natural yoghurt and honey, or that olive oil and sugar facial scrub that somebody posted a few weeks ago. Anyway, you're at the height of fashion with the OS cleaning stuff (have you seen the latest M+S ads in magazines?). Tell that to the St Tropez girls. Or...chocolate always makes me feel better.0

And if you went into Harvey Nics and bought so much stuff you had to be helped to carry it to the car, how would it make you feel afterwards? ............................................................................. What do you like to do for "me time" that would make you feel nice? Sending *positive vibes* your way chica!! xx

Do you know, Im so glad youve asked this.
I dont ave kids but im off sick at the mo and feel the same, like Mrs Mop only fatter and tattier. Worse we are decorating the flat at the mo and theres so much cleaning to do I cant DO anymore ( phyically unable to manage it in any case) and emotionally I cant be bothered.
Yes, I know others who spend silly money on frivolities might wake up one day and regret it, but I DONT CARE! I just want a nice treat! the final straw came the other day when my sister who has just got herself a new man phoned me to boast about how shes off on holiday to bali, bankok, hong kong & borneo and apparently the new BF is paying for it. ( i dont believe her I reckon its going on credit, but anyway) I asked how much it was going to cost and she goes about 5k. But its a hoiday of a lifetime blah blah.
I was just so jealous.
So Ive bought some nair and im now going to do my legs. Maybe that will help :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Awww bless
your replies have really really made me smile (no seriously I'm at work and can't stop smiling, people will start to stare soon!)
I love the *free fun*and I am going to put red polish on my nails tonight!
I'm not spending the voucherI will instantly feel bad and I don't 'need' anything.
I am however gonna go to a Car boot at the weekend.
Guess I just wanted to moan to like-minded people (and get confirmation that we are better than they are)
Keep em comimg though.......:)0 -
a 2 hour soak in the bath with a Lush bath bomb (my one indulgence), a good book and the stereo playing my favourite music usually does it for me.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
It isn't an immediate pick you up, but i bet the others in your office don't have kids and just think by the time you are mid to late 30's you will be able to spend all your money on yourself and they will probably just be starting on the 2 am feeds.
I agree with Moggins though a nice bath and a good book, glass of wine. Just don't drop the book in the bath as it makes the ending a bit soggy!0 -
