this thread is sooooo funny, I have had a right giggle reading it. I thought I was only bushy haired yetti with bad skin and yet him I am reading avidly that there may some more more of us out there. I HATE THOSE SKINNY BIRDS their clothes look immaculate. I never look like that and when I try I actually look like I'm in drag.

spookily though last week my mum treated me to a pedicure and I had my toenails painted red!! Oh we could start a club and no thin stunning birds with st tropez tans can join:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • What a brillant thread!

I empathise with feeling inadequate alongside all the beautiful people at work but this thread has given me renewed enthusiasm to do some DIY pampering and have a hunt through my clothes and try and smarten myself up a bit.

Thank you all for the tips **wanders off to paint toenails**

  • i treat myself to a £4.50 exfoliating sponge thing from the body shop, and i have felt much better for my skin being really smooth.

I normally have really dry skin, and those pimply bits on the back of my arm that a lot of people get, and i found a tiny dot of normal shower gel and a once over with this meant i didn't need the moisturiser. My skin is still really soft a few days later. It also worked on my legs to remove a couple of ingrown hairs.

Me and my sisters will also do swaps with accessories, clothes, recommend really good yet cheap products, and share magazines.

I was speaking to my sister earlier and she said they had been to primark and got me a few bits to take me through my last few weeks of pregnancy. Bless em. They are so much more trendy than me and they try their best to make me like that too.

I think the key is you have got to make that little bit of time to take good care of yourself, and unless there is a special reason to, some people tend not to. (speaking mainly for myself here.)
  • THose bits on your arms may be due to an EFA deficiency so get some seeds and some oily fish down yer neck;)
The past week I have been paid to go to a helath club, have a drink in a pub and next week have a pizza. Not really looking forward to that one as I prefer HM food;)
Really enjoyed spending my boots points and my nectar vouchers today:)
Had my legs waxed today in prep for wedding next wek. WHY oh WHy do people put themselves through that kind of torture. ANd the women who have more waxed than that! THey even had a special - they will wax all of your 'bikini line' oh how i hate that term - so coy - and put a diamante tattoo in it's place! OWWWW!

  • Sorry, don't know if this has been posted or not as haven't read the whole thread...but..if you yearn for a raft of trendy clothes then get a mail order catologue, order a pile, wait for them to arrive, then try them all on, parade around indoors, then, and this is the very important part, send them all back.

It gives the heady "spend and be dXXned" sensation, but is instantly retrievable by a trip to the Post Office, as return postage is free.

I like a good jumble sale...I go and blow £5 and come back with bags and bags of lovely clothes. I went to one the other week, spent £4, bought 14 items, half of which are Laura Ashley, M and S, NEXT or similar - and more than 20p for a garment is really pushing the boat out IMHO!;)

My favourite "treat yourself" is to get to bed before midnight. I find getting a good nights sleep does wonders for my complection and temper:eek:
  • This month's Sainsbury Magazine has an article about getting cheap makeovers and haircuts at training colleges. It isn't worth buying the magazine for one article but perhaps you can borrow a copy :D

I've got loads of posh toiletries from tips on the Freebies board, or at least nearly free if you pay for postage.

Never mind the Orange Ladies at work, have you got any like minded friends who'd like cheap pampering? Have a girlie evening in with one or more friends and slap face pack on each other. Have a bottle of fizzy plonk and a giggle :p

I can't remember if the OP has a man around the house, if so they could send the kids to granny for the night and rediscover a bit of passion ;o)
  • Rainbowrisin I agree with you, MIL and I even have a special term for it- UNSHOPPING.

You get the retail therapy hit, the fun of trying stuff on but none of the pain of a £0 bank balance. Sometimes its a bit sad taking something back that you really love but you soon get over it - i.e. by the time you're out of the shop with your money back in your paw. Occasionally hubby will say "oh that looks too lovely to take back, I'll go without my xx so I can give you the money for it" which is a double hit of feel good!

Alternatively I discovered a brill pick me up last night- I went out for a drink with a few work colleagues that I don't know brilliantly, and who are all the long legged tanned limbed St Tropez types. And they were all lovely, warm friendly people that I didn't mind so much that I am a pasty, rotund, rolling-my-tummy-up-and-tucking-it-back-into-my-waistband mum! It did actually make me feel better, knowing that they weren't judging me the way I was judging myself.

So get unshopping, and befriend one of those glamour girls!
