I'm sort of similar. Now I have a bit of 'spare' (well when is it ever spare!) cash I can't bring myself to pay full price on clothes etc. So I usually get bits from Primark (lovely soft jumpers £4!) and New Look which always seems to have a huge sale on (jeans for £5, tops from £1).
As for pampering, try the £1 challenge! Give yourself a quid to spend in a pound shop. Mine does manicure sets, waxing strips, hair dye, rollers, makeup, false nails, creams, sprays - pick one and treat yourself!!
I often spread palmer's cocoa butter on my feet and stick on a pair of socks. Better than any treatment (you can also use olive oil, just a bit though!)
Pluck your eyebrows into a higher arch for an instant eye lift - curl your eyelashes too.
Send off for beauty samples and ask for them in department stores - the sample size perfumes last months!0 -

But damn MSE, i do find it nigh on impossible to spend money now and think to myself "what would martin do?" Maybe Ill browse ebay for 5 mins....
Lynz,
Have you read Neil Casey's 'The Nicotine Trick'. I know I bang on about it on any available thread but I would thoroughly recommend it.
Having read it myself I am 6 weeks nicotine free after more than 25 years
In the mean time - spend just a little bit on yourself:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
How about playing The supermarket game? Its free, utterly evil and sooo much fun! Next time you go to Morrisons see if you can sneak an item into someone elses basket or trolley, the more inappropriate the better (condoms are a good start) Just imagine their face at the checkout.
I know this is childish but it is fun. I am skint at the mo so I have to cheer myself up somhow!!!0 -
Oh wow. Reading this thread made me wonder if it'd typed it and forgotten I'd done it!!
I totally empathise with you on this one and although it's not a cheap pick me up, I always remember that I can't really compare myself to those girls in my work place, etc as I have a little boy and a house and they don't In years to come they will want to buy and I'm younger than them and have already knocked 5 years of my 25 year mortgage. I also have a beautiful boy and a DS who I have recently realised realy DOES love me and all my faults. While I'm not trying to imply they're not happy in their lives as we all have different values of happiness, I do realise that children and houses come at a cost which they're not worrying about. I'd rather have my house that a fake tan (anyway... I get a natural tan pottering in my garden tending to the veg;s for free, and free exercise to boot)
That's the kind of mind set I adopt when I feel frumpy and fat. I'll be going back ove the posts in here to look for cheap pick-me-ups now too! lolApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

I got a voucher for a day at a gym/ spa https://www.thethirdspace.com
What would I need to take, if I have to buy something I wont be able to go - anyone know what Id need???
Hi Lynzpower
I used to have a membership for that gym. Very lady-da. Well done you. They have a swiming pool and a sauna, and even a climbing wall...
When you come in, at the reception they will give you towels and possibly a free bottle of water or lucazade (spelling?).
In the showers there are plenty of show gel- shompoo and conditioner.
I am so pleased for you!
One of my friends still has a membership there, I must ask her for a complimetary pass.
All birds there are well dressed. But when I went there I tried to ignore this fact as much as possible.
!!! You also need a pad lock for the locker. (or they can lend you one for a quid, if I remember this bit correctly...)
Enjoy!!:T0 -
I used to be one of the 'dollies' in the office, had the nails, the perfect hair, tan ,waxed everywhere, designer clothes etc, this of course was before kids and when I used to be a totally selfish human being.
Life was fun but all I looked forward to was going out and looking the part.
Now I'm a curvy Mummy (15 years of starving to look good-why?) I do my own manicures and pedicures (dark colours on toes look v sexy),have a mobile hairdresser to colour and cut my hair (much cheaper than a salon) pluck my own eyebrows, exfoliate using salt and olive oil and 'treat' myself to a fake tan product (usually on BOGOF)then there are clothes bought in Next sales or on Ebay.
I may not have all the money to do what I want and look 'perfect' but I can bl@@dy well try.
BTW don't bother with fashion-it's all about style, you stick with Trinny and Susannah.Jo x:A0 -

What clothes would I need to wear
I dont really have anything:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I'm glad you're feeling better, and there's been some splendid advice so far. One thought - is the gym the right place for you? When I was going to the gym I found just spending ages on the machines really boring, and I never had any motivation to go back. Instead, why not think about joining a sport group in your area? Maybe rowing, netball, swimming or running? You meet people (who don't care about looking like a footballer's wife), you get fitter, and you have a much more tangible sense of achievement. It's important for you to have time that's yours, when you're not being a mum, wife, cleaner, taxi driver!
I'd also recommend allowing for the odd treat - do you have a Lush near you? I treat myself to a bath bomb or a bar of soap once a month - £2 or £3, the girls are always so friendly, and if you ask nicely they often give you little samples! Walking into my shower room every morning and smelling the gorgeous soap reminds me of my little treat and cheers me up2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
In our lush if you re-use the bag 4 times you get a free soap. So make sure you only buy one thing at a time;) LOLMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
