dmp journey

Hi decided to take the plunge fed up with robbing peter to pay paul and totaly indenial of my debts £14000 to various credit card, loan etc.
Contacted CCCS 2 weeks ago did debt remedey online and received letter saying I have £169 to pay my creditors. Sent out letters to all my creditors with ref no, and sent all my curent statements to CCCS. All quiet on the western front at the moment cant help feeling tearful and very nervous of what is to come. Hopefully my interest will be frozen but who knows at the moment bit in limbo. I know have done the right thing but cant help feeling like a failure and that I have let my kids and husband down causing great problems at home. Husband can bearly spak to me and keeps saying GET A NEW JOB. The fact is I have been doing 3 seperate jobs and still cant make ends meet oh how I wish he was more supportive.
Anyway nervous about the phone calls as summer holidays are upon us and could do without the hassle, but I suppose I should expect this. Hope there is light at thee end of the tunnel as people keep saying things will get better. HOPE I AM DOING RIGHT THING!!!!
anybody on the same stage as me and feeling the same?:T

Are all the debts yours, or have they been run up in the process of raising your family? It is unusual for a mother/wife to spend that much on themselves, rather than their family.

If your husband bears any responsibility for the debts (did he eat the food, wear the clothes, want the present, take the holiday etc), just because the debt is in your name, he should accept some culpability.

What happened to 'better or worse, richer or poorer'? Cheeky sod.

I wish you the best of luck, and you are doing a very smart thing. You haven't failed your kids, you can feed, house and clothe them, and kids don't need a great deal more than that. If your husband makes you feel like you have let him down, ask him where he was while all this happened.

    Best wishes xx

    Hi Jackie and welcome

People always find this part the hardest but hopefully in a few weeks you'll look back and be very happy with your decisions - there is a thread that might be useful which has others who have all started DMPs this year -

Well Done for taking the first step! We are also in the same loop of robbing Peter to pay Paul due to hubby's business doing badly for the last couple of years. I know that I must go down the DMP route but keep putting it off and trying to pay everything when really I know that I should throw the towel in and throw myself on the mercy of the creditors. Health has suffered and feel stressed out all the time. I will be following your progress and maybe will be able to pluck up the courage!

    Good Luck xxx

I can only say from a personal point of view that CCCS are great. You will have to take a certain amount of responsibility yourself, for example writing some letters when creditors become difficult, but all in all i'm happy with CCCS.

Good Luck OP. You are doing the right thing to get your life back on track. If your husband was aware of your debts building up, he is as guilty as you;) If not, I think a lot lies with you.

But hey, that is all water under the bridge now. You can't look back. Onwards and upwards I say :)
Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

ElliesEleven - please pluck up the courage and ring CCCS or do the online debt remedy. I started the ball rolling a couple of weeks ago after a long time of putting it off and the more you put it off the bigger your debts get/the more your health suffers.
Our first payment goes to CCCS on 1st August and our debt free date isnt till February 2018 but at least its a step on the way.
We run our own business as well but now at least its nice to know that we can actually pay our suppliers on time and know the money will be there rather than paying the credit cards and then having to put the business bills/tax bills on other credit cards which is one of the factors in our enormous debts.
I was worried about having to move our business banking but after a meeting with our lovely business relationship manager she has put our minds at rest (at least for the moment).
Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do about the situation.
  • Jackie you are definitely doing the right thing. CCCS are good people; I have been on a DMP with them for two and a half years now, and aside from the very occasional snotty letter from a creditor it has all gone very smoothly. CCCS are definitely on your side, and they will do everything they can to help you.
I remember those feelings of fear and nervousness from when I first started my plan; trust me, it will all feel much better very soon.
As for your OH; the only advice I can give is give him time. If, like me, you had been keeping this to yourself it will have come as a huge shock to him. My OH practically dragged my by my hair to Citizen's Advice when I first 'confessed' to him my financial misdemeanours. But, given time, imformation and reassurance, he has been my rock. I couldn't have got this far without him.

I'll be thinking of you x
