  • Dont get me wrong, the fact that you can own a 32" widescreen LCD telly for £400 just shows how the prices of these are coming down and if you've always wanted one then its great.

However, I'm not sure what librarians expectations are but the motion blur was aweful. So aweful that I didnt buy one and I can assure you that I had my heart set on getting one at lunch!

I dont want to p*ss on anyone's fire, but it really isn't anywhere near the quality you would expect from an LCD television (apart from the inputs).

All I am suggesting is that people at least go into the store and order one and dont just get one online. I live in Bristol and the Woolies at Abby Wood didnt seem to have any issue with the availability of the sets.

It might be worth checking what the video feed was. Woolies in Rotherham had the Acer playing Toy Story directly off a DVD at the front of the store, but all the other LCDs in the electrical department were playing the same film but sharing the feed off a splitter box using coax. The picture quality using coax was terrible because of the signal quality.
  • Hi jwruk. Thats a good point and may explain the difference? To be fair, all the other televisions seemed to be ok though ... maybe the technosonic doesnt deal with coax input very well but is better with others? Most people run through scart at least now.

It's like I said, I'm not having a go at this telly for the sake of it. It just didint appear to offer anywhere near the clarity and enjoyment that the other televisions (that were admittedly £100-£200 more expensive) did. I dont currently own an LCD one so its not like I'm sitting on my high horse with a £1,500 one or anythng!
  • I have to agree with Wittzi's description of the LCD

I went into Woolworths at Lunch to find out what the deal was and if I could reserve one today for Monday.

So I walked in the door and as Wittzi described they had Chicken Little on it and many other LCD's at the entrance. At a passing glance the LCD looked really nice in black.

So I went and reserved one at the Audio Visual Centre.

As I was walking out though I thought I would check it out in more detail and I was chuffed to see the amount of connections, the size and its looks really good.

However after looking at the screen there were so many trailing pixels around all of the moving objects and this was only around slow moving objects. I could not imagine if you tried to play a XBOX 360 game or a fast paced movie how that would look.

I have personally decided against it and I am going to opt for a Toshiba 32WLT its more expensive but well worth the money because it can actually handle a television signal.

In summary, if you want to be able to tell your mates that you have a 32 inch LCD with a HDMI connection then this is the LCD for you, as long as you never invite them round to watch the footie on it.

If thats not what you want buy a smaller LCD with a better panel or cough up a little more.
  • whats the returns policy on these, if they turn out crap ?
  • Damn - thats a good point as well mking007. I should have asked. As long as their returns policy is good then you have no worries about testing it out and seeing if it suits your needs.

Thanks paraffin for your post too - I dont have an xbox but I did envisage playing my PC games on it (unreal tournament and Need for Speed) and I guess that the pixel delay (or 'ghosting' or whatever you call it!) would have made this difficult.

It would definitely look awesome as a monitor just using normal Windows applications though!
  • The returns policy is

    1 years manufacturers guarentee

No Refunds unless it is in Original Condition i.e. the box is not even open.

I just phoned them up to find that out.

So unless you are really sure about the LCD then avoid it.

About feed inputs, most electrical stores use boosted signals on their display models so in effect you will never acheive those results unless you are running SKY HD or Telewest TV Drive.

I would say that the LCD on display was running off a split feed but none of the other LCD's surrounding it were complaining they looked pretty good.
  • not true the 1 year is a return to store and a replacment or refund

the 28 day money back is if it looks new - ie you can take it out use it and repack it as new and you can still bring it back - iam a manager and this is what i adhere to
  • ms01ma would this apply if you bought it online and returned it to a local store, or would u have to deal with woolies online ?
