I went into my local store (Burnley) to take a look at it this morning and I have to report the picture wasnt good. They were playing the film Garfield. Maybe the picture wasnt good because of how they set it up in the store I am not sure.

So I will be very interested to hear what Warnie and others have to say when they setup their new TVs.

  • I saw one today and it was playing Harry Potter through scart from a cheap DVD player. During the dark bits it did look pretty dark but looked fine during the lighter scenes. I think I'll still be getting one for my 360 as during quick scenes there wasn't any blurring noticeable.
  • It's Saturday now and it's still showing £499.99

Ahll, I'm reposting this for you:

    My two pennies worth:

Do NOT rush out and buy an LCD tv without having done your research. I'm just an ordinary 'want to watch tv, dvds and play games' user rather than a 'rivet counter' so I was initially going to buy a 37inch LCD as my current normal tv needs replacing. However, once I looked into it I realised it is an absolute minefield.

SD is what BBC ITV etc and freeview currently broadcast. HD is non existent practically as yet and won't really get seriously going until heaven knows when. When you plug your huge new lcd tellie into your arial or sky or cable box, you might have a very bad picture, as many lcd screens do a poor job of showing SD and you won't be getting HD just because your tv is HD capable.

In short, it's a lot of money to shell out. You can go into any old store and buy a reasonable crt tv and know exactly what you are going to get, but it isn't the same AT ALL with lcd screens.

Do your homework first, when you understand it all, make your decision. If you don't understand what you're buying, don't buy it.

The final decision I have come to is this: I'd still like a big lcd screen, because I don't want a plasma, but I will be watching SD output only ie ordinary tellie and DVDs. The only way I'll be buying one is to go and view them in shops with an SD feed ie an ordinary arial or a DVD, not with a special HD feed which I won't be using. Any of them will look great with an HD feed - but there is hardly ANY HD stuff being produced and won't be until after the great analogue switch off - and possibly not even then. You certainly won't be getting HD in the medium term through your arial.

The great analogue switch off does NOT mean you need an lcd or plasma or even a HD ready set.
  • Yep, I totally agree. Well said whoever posted it originally.
  • I see Woolworths are now charging an extra £15 on top of the £4.95 for delivery, trying to cash in on the deluge of sales no doubt.

That would be great, as I will just buy in store if the web site does not drop today, otherwise stocks will soon go, is your store selling them right now for £399 ?
  • i cant find out until 9am about the online price
