Download this file on to a USB drive or similar. Go to SAFE MODE, navigate to: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC(you can just Copy and Paste that in to a Windows Explorer address bar) Delete the HOSTS file and replace it with the one I have given to you.

What is the make and model of your machine?

    No, it's not that.
It's just that Windows XP needs updating from SP1 to SP3
    and
Internet Explorer needs updating from 6 to 8.

    Don't worry about it yet.

    Windows_Explorer_XP.png That is Windows Explorer.

See where C:\Documents and Settings\All Users is on the picture? That is where you Copy and Paste; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Please explain exactly what happens. Do you know how to Copy and Paste?

Right, not sure I copied the file correctly as it wouldn't actually open once I downloaded it- so just copied the link. When I tried to paste, an error message came up but can't remember exactly what it said, something about shortcut I think.

Pasting your link to the Windows address was fine.

I am on an old system - can't update msn, could that be why I can't open the host? Malware has always updated ok when I do a scan normally, but now won't, also the link Rik posted downloaded ok but won't open.
