AV Security

I have just picked this up and it has taken over everything - took ages to get on here and when i try to follow some recommended links, I just get directed to a warning page. Won't let me open anything so I'm on laptop now whilst pc is running malwarebytes in safe mode. However, I couldn't do an update and reading advice here I should be using the latest version (which I can't access. ) Also, Antivir seems to be disabled too, I know that updates every evening, but now is blocked.

Malware will take ages, will probably have to leave it overnight. Will this version enable me to at least post a log here so (hopefully!) you guys can help me to the next step, or am I doomed to call out an expert? :(

Thanks

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Download HostsXpert
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Hoster-Download-27041.html
and then follow the below steps.
    * Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    * It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    * Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    * click the Make Writeable? button.
    * click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    * Click the X to exit the program

then attempt the latest malwarebytes etc ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything is found and removed then repeat the above but run a FULL scan

    reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

If you start in Safe Mode with Networking, you should be able to update Malwarebytes' Anti Malware.

Just read the information contained in this link and then follow the instructions.

    Where are the Logs?

Is the computer connect via Ethernet(wired rather than wireless)? Connect it via Ethernet and try to update again.

Anyway, follow the instructions in the link I posted earlier. That should do it.

it isn't wireless, connected to modem? will try link, am trying to post log but I saved in safemode and can't find it when I go back to get on here. How do I do that?
  • i know this wont help you just yet till your clear of malware... but....

i used AntiVir for years - until a virus got past it, then i switched to AVG - same thing happend... then through work i get free McAfee Professional AntiVirus - which isn't great at catching MalWare....

ended up at home using the Microsoft free antivirus - which seems to be a good all-rounder and is free from:
    microsoft.com/Security_Essentials

    hope that helps

p.s. your log file is probably stored in something like one of the following places:
on windows XP: C:\documents and settings\administrator\desktop (or my documents)
    on vista/win 7: c:\users\administrator\desktop (or documents)

when you do a scan, save it to C:\ (the main bit of the c: drive) and you should be able to get to it when you reboot into normal mode then!
