Husband has emailed them tonight:
Following your letter dated 17th June 2010, which I received on the 24th June, and my acceptance of the offer contained within your letter which was subsequently posted on the 28th June, I am still awaiting the payment of your offer to me. You stated in your letter that this would be sent to me within two weeks. In the interest of fairness I allowed a further week's grace before telephoning Alliance & Leicester today.
During my conversation with your representative I was informed that payment would take AT LEAST another 10-14 days. I did not agree to this delay when accepting your offer and this has raised a number of questions that I would like you to clarify. How does this affect the remaining two payments left on my loan which need to be paid by the 26th of each month until the account is settled in full. The offer I accepted included A&L paying part of the settlement on to my loan account, which would clear the remaining balance. I understand that if the payments are not made on time then my credit reference will adversely be affected, and I may also incur charges.
I would like to know when I can expect payment as Alliance & Leicester have been holding on to monies of mine for the last 36 months and I feel that I have been patient. Should I not receive a satisfatory response then I shall seek legal advice in this matter and will contact the Financial Services Ombudsman.0 -
Our letter said two to three week, three weeks was yesterday (allowing them a day to receive our signed acceptance). Husband telephoned them this morning to be told there's another 10-14 day wait, due to the high volume of claims.
We're also furious. We're off on holiday on the 5th August and would like the money to take with us.
So what do we do now? We accepted their offer based upon the fact that they promised the cheque within 3 weeks. As it's not arrived, can we start charging them £25 a day for unlawful borrowing of funds or something?!
Not to mention the fact that a cheque will take the best part of a week to clear when it finally does arrive.
I said the women in the complaints department that I thought using cheques was a very archaic practice anyway, I have an A&L account, why can't the money just be transferred. They don't hang about when it comes to taking money off you if you have incurred charges.0 -
Well, we've heard nothing today. Mr S spoke to the department responsible for the loan and they say we need to keep up with the repayments (there's only two left) until they receive settlement from A&L. I'm beyond frustrated but really have no idea what to do next.0

How do they email addresses work? Is it firstname.surname@allianceandleicester.com?0 -

Halphy, we've not had a response to yesterday's email yet - did you actually get any responses to yours?0

Yes I did Sofa, email again, i had a response from the person who signed my letter to say he was no longer dealing with my case, but my cheque had arrived.0

And 3 days later ive had a response to the above email
"Thanks for your e-mail.
This is a receipt to let you know we've received your message, and we'll reply as soon as we can."
I give up, it'll be a further 3 days now.
