Just posted this in another thread:

Got the offer at start of July, signed and sent it back straight away. It's been around two weeks so I phoned A&L and they told that it was taking longer due to the high volume of claims. I said I would phone back if it hadn't arrived by the end of the week. Reading other posts in here doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence.

Got an offer today on a second loan I had taken out and signed and posted it. Looks like it could be another long wait.

To be honest, cheques are such an archaic way of operarting now. I have an A&L account, couldn't they just transfer it to that? Banks can be very awkward when they want to be.

Right, just got off the phone with A&L, really fuming now. They are quoting an additional 10-14 days on top of the two weeks because of the backlog. They have known about this backlog for some time, yet when I received the second offer yesterday, it still said that I could expect to get the cheque in two weeks. I wasn't happy with the PPI department, so phone the general complaints department and unloaded on them (in a calm and polite manner I might add). The women said they were still saying two weeks in their offer letters because "we might have caught up with it (the backlog) by then." Really am very annoyed. I know I'm lucky to have got two offers, but the fact that it's taking so long to get the money is very frustrating. We had budgeted for the first cheque coming this week. My wife has been on maternity leave for the last nine months so it's been a bit of a squeeze and this money will help greatly.

Halphy, any joy with your cheque yet?
