  • I haven't done it myself but I cant see why it wouldn't work, as long as they are cooked and cooled properly prior to freezing. I do see one problem though - they sound so yummy that not many may make it to the freezing stage :-)

Thank you! You can't beat bbq sausages!

I'm having a bit of a rethink. I've just started a big pot of sausage casserole in the slow cooker.. minus the sausages. My plan is to bbq the sausages then chuck them in the slow cooker and freeze half of it for another day. I know its possible to freeze casserole so this should be fool proof.

Whilst i've got the bbq on i'm going to do some naan breads and pizza bases as well for the freezer... don't like to waste those coals lol!

Cooked sausages can become rubbery when frozen without gravy or sauce.

Do they? Oh I don't fancy rubbery sausages:(

Luckily only three made it to the freezer. My daughter and the little one came round and we ate quite a lot straight from the bbq! Then I put loads into a sausage casserole and could have used the lot but decided to freeze three and see how they turned out.

I did naan bread and it was my first time doing it on a bbq on a pizza stone. It turned out really well. It had big bubbly bits that blackened just like from the take away place. They are now bagged up and in the freezer along with some pizza bases that I cooked. If they taste good when I get them out and cook them then I shall definitely do a big batch to see me through the winter.

    Thanks guys.

I batch grill sausages and freeze in single person portions. They haven't been rubbery so far and whilst the skins are a bit tougher I wouldn't say they are leathery. I reheat mine in the microwave - 1 minute on high for 2 sausages. Trying it out with 3 like you've done seems like a good idea.

I usually chop 2 into bits and add to pasta sauces, scrambled eggs, salads, etc. Or defrost and split and have in sandwiches with mustard or pickle. Because I live alone I have to think of ways to use packs of whoopsied sausages, etc and find batch cooking, portioning and freezing works well.

thanks lizzyb, I often freeze sausage casserole and now I'm going to try freezing a few cooked sausages - it would be ideal for me to be able to cook the whole packet and use as I wanted them
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I did notice when they went cold that the skins went a bit wrinkly but thats ok. What I don't like is when the skins are tough and you end up pulling them off. Thats how the sausages were when I did them in the pan. However on the bbq they were delicious!

I will probably eat these three on Saturday so hopefully they will be almost as good as when they were fresh.

I freeze sausages all the time, if i see them reduced in the supermarket i`ll buy a couple of packs and cook them both when i get home.

Some get frozen whole and some i slice at an angle once cooled and refrigerated then they all get frozen.

The whole ones get used in sandwiches (only take couple of mins to microwave) the sliced ones i keep to use in a quick sausage and onion pasta when i don`t have time/can`t be bothered to cook.

I keep fried onions in the freezer sometimes and if i run out it takes two mins to prep and fry one, handful of sausage slices, mix into warm pasta with red pesto and voila-a quick and tasty meal in a few mins. I usually put the kettle on and by the time i`ve taken off my shoes and coat its almost boiling and then the water goes in a pan of pasta which has a dash of oil added. ten mins later its cooked waiting to be drained and the other bits adding to the pan and mixed in. Hardly any washing up too :D

They only really get rubbery if microwaved too long when warming them back up. I freeze absolutely everything these days and sausages are a great thing to have in once cooked.
