Had a look at OP's previous posts (I have been burnt sooooooo many times recently supporting someone to then actually see that they're not telling the whole truth-not saying that the case here, but sometimes posts strike me so I take a look back!)
A) OP, you do not need 3 seats space at the minute-you only have 2 step-schildren. how likely/immenent is another child? Perhaps a new car could be delayed or can it be upgrade at a later point if/when 3rd seat becomes requiredHave you been looking since November? You mentioned in an earlier post (around that time) of this problem
C) You were keen on a volvo. Is this still the case?
D) You ruled out 3 key manufacturers in an earlier post, but mentioned you had market choice today. Advice from knowledgeable people (about cars) could depend on this information

Your sister who 'works in recruitment' can't help you get a job? Doesn't wash I'm afraid. If you're not getting interviews then you need to look at your pre-interview progress, if you are, then you're not living up to what's on your CV.
She works in very specialized part, her company only deal with graduates with sales experience.
The problem is there are more people looking for work than there are jobs. I hate being unemployed. The only other time I have not worked before was when I was at home with my children.0 -

TBH I'd rather have a little white van but boss says a car so a car I've got.
Not so lucky then, as like the op's husband you want a car that suits you and your job, only just using your values to determine that, and not his.
Otherwise you could be really lucky and have the Ka with a roofbox and a stepladder.0 -
OP sorry have kind of high jacked your thread, will stop.0

My first thought was that he needs to be comfortable with a car if he's doing that many miles. Then I asked my hubby who also has a company car and does similar mileage and to my amazement he says yes he thinks he is being when you have had to make cut-backs (phone, hair cuts).
I guess it depends on whether he is objecting on reasonable ground, it is too small for his height etc or he doesn't fancy the look and is sulking to get his own way-only you know that.0 -
Would you do your job in a Ka with a roofbox?
I drive around for my job - about 25000 miles a year; and we have a Fiat 500 and a Mazda 6.
I love our Fiat; seriously. But there's no way jose I'm gonna use it long term for the large amounts of travel that I do.
It's not about having a big car, it's about comfort on long journeys and traffic jams.0 -

We have a similar dilemma next time, wondering whether to have another 7 seater or knock it down to a 5 to save on tax as we'll need to think about how often we will use the extra seats (currently used due totaking elderly relative with us on trips)0 -

I don't think a stepladder would fit in a Ka.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Our personal fuel is covered too this why the tax we pay is high.
We both on salaried jobs with no paid overtime so no capacity to earn more- we work 50 and 60 hrs a week each :-(0 -
You might not, but the majority of people do. It amuses me to think that anyone who has a personal budget must be cheating. It definitely says a lot about your issues.
No issues - we have three kids and a household to run and all money is spent on those. Money for hobbys, such as dancing and golf comes out of the household budget.
I don't see my husband paying for hobbies, which may cost £100 a month as me having to sacrifice something, nor does he see my gym membership/dance membership as him having to make a sacrifice.
We don't have cars on finance, but if we did and he wasn't comfortable in a particular car, it makes sense to pay a little extra for one he is comfortable.
Everything in this household is negotiable - wages are paid separately as we have seperate bank accounts but I think there are more issues in a relationship if you feel that you have to 'sacrifice' one thing, over someone elses thing.:cool:0
